ADSL upload speed to increase soon

Hmm. I'm surprised so many of you are moaning over a free upgrade (fine, only 4Mbps people are eligible, but still). I don't see how the argument of using up your cap faster applies here. Upload less, if you are worried about that. You control how much you upload... A faster upstream synch is going to let you upload the same amount faster, and not necessarily cause you to upload more (if you are worried about p2p, throttle your upload speed.)

I upload a lot of files internationally, so this is a nice upgrade for me. I haven't tested it yet, but it may also help with the video calls I do over Skype (to people in the US). Just the other day, I was uploading photos to my web site, and I was uploading at a constant 52KB/sec, compared to the 35KB-odd I was getting before. That IS an improvement ;)

I think the thing to moan about here is that they are only doing 512Kbps and not 640Kbps :P

I don't want to sound negative but this is just a way for Telkom to "give" us something to keep us quite. I still can't afford the 4MB think so this is all a pile of crap. If they could bring the prices down then that would be exciting.
 
Interesting to note: both your uploads and downloads contribute to your cap, so here's another opportunity to hit your cap a little faster, especially if you do a lot of uploads, or heaven forbid: peer to peer...

Still, congratulations to all of the people who can afford 4Mbps for getting an upgrade, though it doesn't really make Telkom suck any less...

I doubt it would make anyone hit their cap faster. If you do a lot of uploads then that is up to you, there is no reason to upload any more than you did before just because it uploads 128kb faster.

With P2P or torrents your cap would be gone already if you don't limit the upload, especially with seeding torrents after completion.

I'm not sure why everyone drags every other issue into a thread about the 4mb upload being increased. When Telkom announces its new prices and ADSL speeds for August then you can moan about those, but increasing the upload of the only service which's upload really can/should be upgraded is nothing to moan about (512kb and 384 already have suitable, near max, upload speeds but 4mb should be faster than 384).

Most Corporate PR and Marketing Departments tend to produce loads of it, the consumer (either gullible or desperate) still believes it is what they say instead of what it really is..... rocking horse cr@p:D

Here you are getting something for nothing -- even if it is only a little improvement and all you do is MOAN

Think of the poor Telkom techs trying their hardest to keep you AND the Bosses happy -- and all they get for their efforts is your unending bitching.:(

I don't suppose any of you ever had to use a 300BAUD Modem ....... :eek:

Hear hear. I work from home and this will help alot when accessing VPN's and uploading websites.
 
Some will benefit while others will not, of course the people will moan that don't get.
 
I agree... I also upload alot and this will help me also. I'm welcoming this upgrade very much.... now...:rolleyes: have anyone seen their line being increased yet?
 
You guys are wasting your time waiting for Telkom. PM photonman and he will upgrade your upload speed to 640kbps.
