Hi All
I am sure that many of you have thought about this.
I pay R500-R600 for Telkom ADSL for a on average 6gb (1 mb line).
Even if i downgrade to the new upgraded line, its still quite a bit.

That vs. 8ta's R199 for 10gb.
Where i am currently staying has coverage, but i am moving in the next few months close to Olivedale clinic.
1. So do i move to 8ta now?
2. Hows the speeds in Olivedale (coverage looks good on the map)?
3. 24 months contract worries me a bit, maybe i should try prepaid first, but the 2+1 special may not be enough?

What are yours guys thoughts.

I get 3-5Mb download speeds (1-2.5Mb upload) with a 7.2Meg dongle with around 29-41% signal quality. Pings are sub 80ms locally.

EDIT: Heck, 8ta's latest coverage map does not even cover my house anymore!

Yeah man, was also thinking about the move. But Telkom is upgrading line speeds soon.

Still, it is about R400 just for line rentals.
Naked ADSL will solve my problem, but that is never going to happen.

Yeah, i have heard a lot of good things about 8ta.

i currently have both ... and 8ta works gr8, only prob is 10GB is not enough for downloading
or to last through the month for me and the whole fam :{ but at the same time the adsl
is getting to be a bit expensive ... telkom needs work on the pricing of the adsl lines even
unbundling wont really help cause we need the land line for other things as well ... Telkom
should reward those of us willing to keep the land line with some more options and cheaper
prices!!!!

Borrowed an 8ta stick from work and I am getting 9Mbps last night, good enough for me.

So true.
Yes i do use the telkom voice line, sometimes, but for R200, i can get plenty off peak minutes thro a cellphone.
I would not even mind if they charged us a little more for naked adsl.

Hi there

Apologies for the late response. Do yourself a favour and RICA a SIM card with us, have it converted to a promo SIM, purchase R40 airtime and convert it to 100mb data to test from your new location and decvide from there?

What are you going to use it for? If it only browsing and email downloading, then go for it. Online gaming, then stay with your adsl. I am switching from 8ta to ADSL, because I use my connection mostly for online gaming.

I have an 8ta SIM in my iPad, and I use my girlfriends dongle sometimes, and I must say I have not had any problems so far. The speeds to fluctuate quite a bit but we also usually get around 3 - 5Mb speeds. You can always check on their site they have a coverage section. Although I agree its not very good for gaming.. But browsing, downloading, watching a few vids here and there its perfect.

Gaming on 8ta is near impossible at the moment. I'd go ADSL.

Agreed. It was fine during June, but my ping has dropped from 50-100ms to 300ms, but this has mainly to do with it dropping from 'HSDPA' to '3G' from recently. But I like it for downloads.

And I am fully with you on the Naked ADSL, I am not paying for a voice line I will never use.

Hi all!

As per the other threads:
We are currently experiencing a higher than normal customer data usage which will affect throughput during busy hours. Network optimization is in progress which will address the issue. A resolve is expected by next week Wednesday (18/07/2012).

Apologies for the inconvenience
