I want to get an external keyboard to use with my laptop. I already use a Logitech wireless mini mouse that I love (the M187). So I thought that perhaps I could get a Logitech keyboard with one of their "unifying" USB receivers, and perhaps it would work with my mouse so that the keyboard and mouse would both use the one receiver.

Firstly - is that possible? From what I've read on the Logitech website, it seems that it might be. In which case - I need advice on which keyboard to get. Only other essential criterion is that it must have unique Home and End keys. I don't want to be using the Function key together with arrows in order to get Home and End. (Initially I thought of getting a bluetooth keyboard but I couldn't find any that had Home and End keys.)

I'm looking for the lightest (not necessarily smallest) keyboard that fulfills these two criteria. I think my options are probably the 220, 270, 330 or 360.

If the mouse uses the Unifying Receiver (with the red / orange asterisk) then it will work...think you can connect up to six unifying devices to one receiver. Very easy to pair with the Logitech software.

If the mouse uses the normal nano receiver (not the unifying version) then its debatable. Might be best to borrow someone's unifying receiver and see if you can pair your mouse. Or just buy a new mouse / keyboard combo?

Just be aware that its a pain to get a replacement receiver if you lose yours.

I have a Logitech M525 and K330 using a unifying receiver.

The way it works is through the unifying software. All that needs to be done is to switch off the mouse or keyboard, put on pairing mode in the software, then switch on the mouse or keyboard and just like that it's paired. You don't have to worry about losing the receiver since the mouse and keyboard each comes with a receiver, so you should have an extra one, unless it's a bundled mouse and keyboard.

The M187 is not unified receiver compatible. It seems that the firmware on the mouse does not support it or perhaps even the mouse's hardware doesn't support it. You'll have to get a compatible mouse, unfortunately.

I have the Logitech K800 wired keyboard, and it's great. You get the wireless version as well.
I also have an older wireless K750 Solar keyboard, and while it's decent, I wouldn't use it for typing intensive tasks.

Ahhh, this is what I was wondering. The Logitech website seems to suggest that the M187 is compatible with the unifying receiver, or am I misreading something here?

I use a logitech bluetooth keyboard and a bluetooth mouse - achieves the same thing without chewing up a USB port.

I haven't managed to find a bluetooth keyboard that has dedicated Home, End, PgUp and PgDn keys.

Oh, OK. On a mac so those aren't keys I can ever say I have used often. The K220 you mentioned comes with a mouse so your existing mouse could be repurposed or redundant. I have that for my HP MicroServer and it is a robust little keyboard. The buttons you are talking about though are on the top above the keypad and half-size keys, so just be aware of that. Here's the kit so you can see in the pic what I mean:

Yeah, I had a look at that one in Incredible Connection. I may end up going with it. Though I do love my little mouse when I travel.
