Afrihost, Axxess ADSL network problems

Who's the hacking group responsible for this?

Interesting times

Why is it always Afrihost? Dam, and there the office stands again.

I'm not a guru.... but it seems more like cheap hardware/software they using, cause why does the other ISP's never have these issues?

Just saying, but it really starts looking like it.

Just a word of warning, don't change the username to @afrigreen without testing it first on your side.

Had to switch a client over that was battling with it, and now he is completely disconnected, because the @afrigeen username is not being authenticated.

As long as the account has been created from our end the account should auth.
Afrigreen accounts are created manually.

If you're still having issues drop me a PM with the DSL username you're trying :)

Thanks, talked them through the process to change it back, and they are back online.

Will leave it for now and wait for the migration next month.

Hi,

I'll be honest I was furious yesterday evening with online gaming to euro servers being unplayable, to rub salt in it I'd also just upgraded from 4mbs to 8mbs so was expecting things to be better (not worse).

Check my router, had a afrihost.co.za username saved there, remembered I'd signed up for Afrigreen a while back so changed to that.

Sorted, running laka.

Changing to Afrigreen from the old Afrihost network solved the problem of DNS not resolving this morning.

The Afrigreen network uses what appears to be Afrihost IPs in the route - instead of the MTNbusiness IPs - its a significant change in performance.

2 12 ms 12 ms 12 ms 169-0-44-1.ip.afrihost.co.za
3 15 ms 14 ms 13 ms 169-1-5-105.ip.afrihost.co.za
4 15 ms 13 ms 15 ms 169-1-5-118.ip.afrihost.co.za
5 14 ms 12 ms 12 ms 169-1-5-128.ip.afrihost.co.za

Happy after requesting Afrihost to switch the account to the Afrigreen network to test. All protocols ops normal...now.

That explains why the ADSL had been completely dead... thought the other students were mass downloading or something :D

They simply have too many users for their available lines. Also too busy counting their money.....

Was frustrated this morning when I couldn't connect to the internet on my phone. Wasn't sure what the problem was. Is there a way to get updated when there are problems with the apn? There just seems to be no communication.

Really sorry about the issues earlier :(
We did have issues broadcast on our noticeboard as well as Social platforms.

How many gigs of 3g data do you use every month?

How is that relevant?
Also, could be connected to Wi-Fi > ADSL (/VDSL/Fiber)

I was going to suggest getting a sim only data top up contract from Vodacom. The pricing is very similar and there are 12 month options. It costs R80 per gig from Vodacom after exceeding the allocated data.

I would rather pay Vodacom or Telkom Mobile vs constant issues from Afrihost.

I've had pretty much bad to non existent connectivity for the last week, while my router reports a signal to noise ratio that can probably reach the moon with a piece of cast iron wire. After 3 moths of this constant on and off, I finally switched to Vox today, and all my woes magically disappear.

Amazing how things in my house get blamed for that, or its Telkom's fault. Sorry guys, I don't buy it, I live next to an exchange that has been upgraded at the beginning of the year. I have 2 modems on hand as rolling stock as I used to go through these things often when the weather got bad.

Not the first time I got bit by Afrihost either, was with them about 5 years ago too, throttled the living daylights out of my gonnection when I averaged about 50GB a month...
