On almost every occasion I have had bad speeds, Telkom guest account on SAIX shows 5+MB.
I don't have any other ISP accounts to test on.

Edited to add:

Case in point -

Telkom guest login:

Are you using a regular Telkom account or the Telkom Guest account? Reason I ask is because in the recent Telkom outage guest accounts still authenticated, so I'm starting to wonder if they should be used for anything other than testing whether or not your line can authenticate.

Speeds are horrible again tonight. WTH is going on over there? IPC upgrade not holding up already??

Some BF4 pings.. Disgusting!!

View attachment 161839

Looks like latency spikes within our network. It could be that this was at a peak in demand and we haven't quite yet settled the new capacity to manage traffic optimally. Generally we should be seeing better performance in the North :(

No offence but really slow
On business account 4mb uncapped

on speedtest =

0.70mbps download
0.40mbps upload

used an alternative mweb account on the same line =

3.25mbps download
0.41mbps upload

Definitely not great performance from us. Which region is this?

You guys are seriously ****ing with my loyalty.

Packet loss, packet loss everywhere, can't browse **** without having to reload multiple times. Didn't have it before today. Also note normally this specific ping is at least 20ms lower, i.e. 205-210ms, and not nearly this inconsistent:

What is happening now? Let me guess, we should just wait until the extra capacity goes live. Really.

I'm really sorry that you're getting this frustrated, I can totally understand. We clearly had some latency issues while we wait for more capacity (I'm assuming you are in the South) and this is always a possibility when demand is very high. Until then we can't do much without breaking our guarantee of unshaped bandwidth, which we can't really do.

I know it's like being stuck between a rock and hard place, but I promise you that if there is anything we can do in the interim, we'll keep looking for any opportunity to improve your experience :(

It's p0Ʃs slow tonight - even browsing is painful!

EDIT - I'm in the north

EDIT 2 - 4096 Business Uncapped

You shouldn't be getting such poor speeds in the North. Since the upgrades, we've had some patches where we've needed to tighten up on our bandwidth management to cater for the new capacity correctly, but otherwise clients are generally experiencing better speeds.

Have we done any troubleshooting with you?

I thought that bandwidth on Business Accounts wasn't "managed"?
No you haven't done any troubleshooting with me.

This morning speeds are pretty much back to normal. DL = 3.49 and UL = 0.41

I'll post back later if the speeds drop off the cliff again

Has the north really been upgraded? Does not look like it. Luckily I kept my cancellation. http://speedtest.ookla.com/result/2742550657.png (10m Business account)

The North has definitely been upgraded.

I see that a lot of complaints came up at 10pm or just after. From what I can see, this was round about when we tried to start relieve shaping (on Uncapped, not Business accounts) but clearly demand was still to high to really do this. Once the system saw this it would have started shaping again to bring throughput and latency back into control. We'll get better at this as we. This is what I mean by finding the sweet spot on the network. Is the level of shaping (on Uncapped) that allows maximum bandwidth to all users but can guarantee low latency and good throughput for Capped and Business on all services. Every time we upgrade the IPC these settings have to be re-calibrated for optimal performance (and for each region independently based on user behaviour and trends)

Bandwidth over the entire network has to be managed. I'm not talking about shaping or throttling but efficiency of traffic management. Shaping affects Business only with regard to how effectively and reactively we can shape Uncapped accounts for best overall performance on the network.

I know you are on Business and should not be shaped, but with all the p2p management going on etc your BF4 performance might be explainable by the following.

I have a home uncapped account for home use and last night while BF4 was logged into battlelog and waiting for our server to be online, I tried to watch youtube...no go. All traffic shaped to hell. First I thought it was mumble...so I quit that and tried again. Same result. All traffic shaped. So I quit battlelog and whalla. Youtube ran perfect at 450kB/s. Start Battlelog back up...all traffic shaped.

I reported this in the Home Uncapped thread as well. It is clear that BF4's traffic signature is being handled as P2P and being shaped on home uncapped. Again since you are on business this should not effect you, but since they have been "managing" p2p and it being contended and whatnot it could explain your performance.

I replied to your post on Uncapped. Since it's an Uncapped issue, it really doesn't relate to Business as Business is not shaped. So whether the traffic was misclassified or not on the network it would have no impact on traffic over a business account.

That entirely contradicts every single post you and the other reps have made regarding p2p performance the last 6 weeks. You have continuously said that while demand is high and contention kicks in p2p services can be effected on Business and Capped.. If the gaming traffic is being mis-classified as p2p it can and will be effected. Per your own posts regarding the contention.

so NOW you are saying irrespective of it being p2p it would not have been affected...okay. Then PLEASE explain why the p2p and NNTP performance have been and is so bad on BUSINESS the last 6 weeks if as you say it does not matter...

So which is it?

Since you are testing on Home Uncapped, I think it's irrelevant since you are not using Business or Capped to test here. We're having another conversation in the Uncapped thread and I'd prefer we keep the conversation in one thread (for my own sanity).

With regard to P2P, we're talking about unpredictable performance due to contention, where you re talking about shaping due to misclassification of signature. these are totally different issues here and in no way related. On Uncapped you are talking about traffic possibly being shaped incorrectly, and that is a policy or classification issue. On Business, there are no classifications or policies acting on traffic, so it does not apply at all.

Centurion. South of Pretoria, yes - just.

EDIT: Had to stream on 240p last night just to watch anything on Youtube, and it still buffered sometimes. I know it's only a 2 meg account, but normally even 480 is a breeze, even 720 is usable if I let the first part buffer for a few seconds. Now it's just LoL.

Seen as the North I think? So same crap as what I had last night. Seems to be better this morning again. But I would still like to have an answer regarding the half refunds for last month?

I know, I was being sarcastic.

I don't want refunds, I just want to use some internet...

Okay Afriman.

I have used your capped account, a 4mb business account, as well as uncapped account this last month. While I've only tested the BF4 on uncapped, I've tested the p2p performance on the others. My BF4 query we can keep in the uncapped thread.

However the fact that it being p2p not having an effect as it's not being shaped etc or effected by contention I'd like addressed here as this is where it is relevant.

Like so many here I've also experienced the slow p2p and nntp throughput when using your capped and business account - you will recall I posted that 2 weeks ago I was using a business account to see if it would be worth while to switch (it wasn't as performance was as bad on it as capped as on uncapped).

Now again, while p2p and nntp was only getting a fraction of line speed every other service was running perfectly - on capped and business. This was then chalked up to p2p being unpredictable and affected by contention - again surprisingly every other protocol ran perfectly fine - but whatever that is what you claimed. So p2p was being affected on capped and business accounts - your words - while not being shaped as this was due to contention. Your words.

So now if the traffic of any program is being classified as p2p on your network you are claiming now that it would NOT be effected? If, in this case BF4, is being classified as p2p it would be affected by contention just as much as any other p2p program using p2p protocol as it would be affected by contention on capped and business as you've said is happening.

I'm not disagreeing that on uncapped the shaping of the protocol traffic would be a problem - that is a given - however the fact that is IS being seen as p2p WILL have it effected by contention on both capped and business. You are now claiming it won't be effected. Why would THIS be exempt from contention when every other p2p test is not?
