This is what my line does with all those restarts you see Afriman, finally caught it. Line stats say perfect but it just dies...

Sometimes if there is a problem with the ADSL line or with the port at the Exchange, a traceroute may not reveal the issue, especially if it is an intermittent issue.

Could you send me a PM with your line number so that I can look into this from my side.

Last couple of days my 10Mb business uncapped has been a bit dodgy. As stated in previous pages, youtube sometimes even buffers on 360p.

Here is a download link that should be at least 1MB/s, but is only coming down at between 500 and 700 KB/s: http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9842997

And a paid usenet account which was doing a solid 1MB/s no matter what time of the day before, is only going around 700 now.

The cumulative speed of a few things going at once results in some full-line-speed-peaks, but generally it seems my line is roughly limited at 700.

Are you seeing reduced speeds on Speedtests as well? Are there any other services that are affected?

I know this is off topic here - but I'd also like to ask about AH+. So I'm cool with there being no incentives for the premium business subscribers, but will my double-data packages that I've had since they first came out drop down to the original amount at the end of the year?

Speedtest: http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3939082901
That looks low, but is a bit faster than what my downloads are going at.

Well, downloading in general and streaming video are both giving issues. The only thing left is general browsing, but that is pretty subjective so we can leave it out of the discussion.

EDIT: For the last 10 minutes I am getting full line speed.

If the decision to not extend Double Data for Capped ADSL and Mobile Data, then yes, the packages will revert to their standard data allocations.

That's a real pity. Do you have any idea why business uncapped has no incentives? I know MTN has bought Afrihost and they have far more promotions for low cost services (prepaid vs contract) but it's yet another disappointment from AH that a customer who has high cost subscriptions (I have 3 business uncapped bundles and 4 data bundles) gets a raw deal. The amount of money I'll have to pay for AH+ is roughly the same as it'll cost me just to pay for double as much mobile data.

The Business Uncapped accounts are already significantly subsidized and on average have a significantly lower per GB cost than most of our client base.

There are still significant benefits that you can get with Plus+ such as Simfy and the 500MB of Mobile Data. This even increases further is you have an Mobile Data products that you can add the Double data and 2-for-1 Topups to.

Really man? Come on, don't treat me like I'm stupid. Afrihost is a business. Subsidized my ass.

Oh wow it's worse than I thought.

So I currently pay R29 x 3 500megs and R58 x 1 gig. That's R145 and I get a total of 2.5gigs of data.

With this restructuring I'll now be paying R99 for AH+, R58 for 500megs of data on my main device as well as the bonus 500megs from AH+. Then R29 for 250megs which can be doubled using the single double data option as well as another R58 for my 2 extra devices.

That's a total of R302 for the same thing.

I specifically went for these services so I never have to deal with "topping up" and Simfy really doesn't add any value to me. This really seems like MTN's tactics of catering to the "masses".

Please correct me if I'm wrong though, I'd be very glad if I am.

You are on the Business Uncapped Bundle, there is a significant discount that is applied to your account versus having the products as standalone products. :)

I am by no means saying Plus+ is a product that everyone will use, it is for those users that want to add extra features to their existing Afrihost accounts.

Yes you're deflecting and trying to put a positive spin on this, but what you're actually saying is "yes, next year, you'll pay R145 more for the same service you're getting now".

Time to look at Axxess.

At some point late last night YouTube streaming improved, but this morning it's back to buffering.
As a developer there is a lot of content I need to access for work, not entertainment. Really frustrating!!

Is this a priority for Afrihost to sort out, because it seems that this is really a recurring problem?

Afri* I directed this question at Afrihost (you in other words), but I've not seen a reply on this. I've got an open ticket about it as well, but just getting the normal test this test that.

I’ve now tried again. On my Afrihost account I cannot watch a YouTube video. I get under 1Mbps. On a backup Telkom account I get 6Mbps while streaming.

My apologies, I seemed to have missed your post, using your Afrihost account can you quickly run a traceroute to Youtube please. I just need to quickly rule out any potential routing issues.

After they did a line reset my upload speed is now almost half it used to be. Got a suspicion they might have stabilized instead of recreate port. Have not received reply on that question.

I have been waiting more than a month now for a response from your gaming expert as to why I am getting such poor throughput to my Minecraft server.

The Team is actually testing Minecraft - along with quite a few other popular games - at this exact moment, they should have the exact signatures loaded and prioritized correctly in the next few hours.

Just on the line being set to 8Mbps. Why would support do that without informing me they did that. They said they reset my connection, not stabilized it. Apart from that I was not even complaining about any other speed, but YouTube.

Something to note, I am playing Feed the Beast so it is running 1.6.4 minecraft I am unsure if the signatures are the exact same...

Just on the line being set to 8Mbps. Why would support do that without informing me they did that. They said they reset my connection, not stabilized it. Apart from that I was not even complaining about any other speed, but YouTube.

I am not sure, in most cases they would just do a line stabilisation, did you use the Fix my Line at all?

Thanks for the Traceroutes to Youtube, they are helping significantly.
