Pretty weird. I'm assuming you mean YouTube here. Are you getting good general throughput on your account? Is latency normal on traceroutes?

throughput is perfect, downloads at nearly full line speed, just streaming is horrendous.....

Latency seems mostly normal, except for hop 5. When I queried that with MTN's network team, they said this was normal, so I suspect it's just how the internal routing does things, cos it doesn't seem to affect destination latency.

Are other streams affected or only YouTube? Can you check in the YouTube stats if throughput is not what we expect?

But you're in the North, right?

I think you right click and click on stats for nerds.

That's what it says :

timestamp seconds 20.113
2048x1152, 10088 average kbps, 100% volume
TagStreamPlayer, HTTPS/DASH/VOD, 5231 kbps
24 stage fps, 18 video fps, 145 dropped, 0 kbps
accelerated video rendering, software video decoding
NaN db, 1 audio factor

Oh and thanks, learned something new

Still have major latency spikes and packet loss in Cape Town... and it's getting worse as the evening progresses :(

Zertop's "Is it my Line" Results
Basic Report:

Your packet loss was 6 percent.
Your average ping was 49ms.
Your maximum ping was 1171ms.

You seem to have some packet loss. This indicates an issue on the line.
Looking at your average ping, your line seems to be a bit dodgy. This may account for any slow speeds you may be experiencing. However, it could just be related to a high-latency home network (eg... Wi-Fi). If you feel the need, please post the results (at the end of the program) into the forum for advice

Come on AH tell us. WHAT IS GOING ON NOW?
Should I go to another ISP. Your service has been up to poo for the past 4 months. And having another month of this is not on. Should I stop my debit order till you van fix your poo? Hell no, then all hell will brake loose here. But if you do not give us the service you PROMISE we are just to take it up the ass?

Looks like throughput to YouTube was decent, so I'm not sure why it's behaving strangely. We'll need to run some tests on our side. Unfortunately, last night was the one night I didn't log on to see how the network was doing for myself, but I'll definitely check things out over the weekend and confer with the guys here :(

Sorry that you were battling. As far as I know things should have been working OK, going on the feedback from support and social media, but we'll test today to see whether we can replicate your experience :(

YouTube in the toilet again tonight, speeds are very inconsistent?

I do see that overall demand on the network at 8pm was lower than usual, but as far as I can tell we didn't receive many calls or complaints to support.

Could this have been an issue on YouTube's side?

There were a whole lot of exchanges down in the East yesterday. I remember Durban North in particular had a few exchanges down. As far as I can tell demand and performance in the East should have been pretty normal.

I also think with Telkom pushing for maintenance and upgrades to be completed before the network freeze (usually around the 15th) we could see some services go down while they do their thing.

I can totally understand your frustration here, Francois, and I am sorry that your experience has been poor for so long. We did some major work on our network, and we're mostly seeing performance at normal levels (in some cases better than before) and it's definitely concerning that you are not experiencing the same.

What services in particular are not as good as they should be? Can you PM me with any testing that you have already run?
