Reverted to the MTN servers to test and they seem fine now for me. May have been placebo or a minor hiccough.
Please keep me posted on how things go, I'm running tests too

It's the results from the exchange, so upload and download are backward -- the exchange downloads data from you (you are uploading) and uploads data to you (you are downloading). For some reason the afrihost stats on the client zone are the opposite to the router stats.
You can use those stats. Your SNR is poor, but your Attenuation isn't too bad, so I think 10mbps wouldn't be easy for you. 8mbps might be your maximum stable speed if you contact Telkom to try resolve your line SNR. How far are you from the exchange? So the question is, which stats do I go with to decide whether my line can go further than 4 mb.
Hi Afriguy, I am on a 4mb business uncapped and was looking at going to a 10mb. I have been investigating my line stats and cannot decide which is the correct stats as I have the Afrihost client 'test my line' stats report as follows:
ADSL Router Results (Telkom Exchange to Your Location)
Current Downstream Sync - 4094kbps
SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio) - 23.6dB
Attenuation - 21.9dB
DSLAM Results (Your Location to Telkom Exchange)
Current Downstream Sync - 511kbps
SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio) - 6.5dB
Attenuation - 42.4dB
..........and my stats from my router (TP LINK WD8980) is as follows:
Upstream Downstream
Current Rate (Kbps) 508 4092
Max Rate (Kbps) 1098 8156
SNR Margin (dB) 24 6.4
Line Attenuation (dB) 21.9 42.4
For some reason the afrihost stats on the client zone are the opposite to the router stats.
So the question is, which stats do I go with to decide whether my line can go further than 4 mb.

I am currently managing to stream 1080p on YouTube. The bandwidth is apparently 2.5~2.9mbps (435kB/s maximum according to netlimiter).
Twitch, on the other hand, battles. Medium quality.

Something is wrong with your DNS, this is the second time myBB "went down"
![]()
And only is myBB affected.
There was an issue with this a few days ago (last week, actually) where it turned out that there was a problem on their host. I don't know what was resolved, I don't believe we made any changes on our side.
I'm sure they'll get hold of us if this is an issue on our side![]()
I changed my primary DNS to 8.8.8.8 because I couldnt enter myBB to post that.

lekke AH 4mb Uncapped Bus for me.......LOVING the speed, in cape town:
Hey vinnie, can you post a jitter test? Your local pings seem good according to the tracert. Also try "ping mybroadband.co.za -t" and click ctrl-c after a minute and copy paste it in here (just the last bit).
EDIT: Can you also try Zertop's tools, they are really nicely coded:
Help me fix my internet: http://bit.ly/1hJ0l3W
Is it my line?: http://bit.ly/1lqvJpd
EDIT2: Could you also check your line stats? Those stats look like your line might have defaulted to 2Mbps?

Edit: Cancellation pending please have this expedited so that i can have a proper ISP at the end of the month.....kthxbaai
speeds has gone down the drain to the point where we were disconnected for an hour tonight an are now crawling along
whatsup afrihost
I don't see anything particularly concerning on the traceroutes here. But definitely not great throughput for a 4Mbps line.
I also saw the Jitter test you posted, I don't pick up anything that points to a definite cause. On the network side, I'm definitely not seeing an influx of complaints after 3pm, for the South (or any region) cos we've definitely go plenty of capacity right now.
What other tests did you run? Have you tried switching to a test account? Maybe drop me a PM and we'll try a few things to test.
We have been through that all a couple of times now, i have run the test that you asked and sent them multiple times in the past and as soon as i send them i hear nothing further from you guys....i think it is best if i move to another ISP were i get my moneys worth. Please have my cancellation that is in pending status expedited.
I had a really great experience the first 4 months that i was with AH and then after that capacity debacle last year it just never got better again, after asking and begging for help for months i got to a point were i didn't care anymore and last night was the last of it.
I recommended you guys for a lot of my friends and they are also leaving now due to this issue.
Cancellation would be pending for the end of the month, so I am not sure what you mea by expediting it. Maybe you can explain over PM so I can try to see what can be done.
We've definitely seen a huge improvement in performance since we upgraded our network late last year, I think we've seen many reporting as much (or rather not reporting other problems) here in these threads, so I really believe that all our clients should be having a good experience unless there are other issues contributing to what they are seeing on their side. I am always happy to test and troubleshoot, and I promise I will be the first to admit if our network is the cause of a poor experience. I would hate to lose you as a client if we haven't done our best to improve your experience.
Look forward to your PM so we can chat further![]()
