Yeah, when I phoned in automated message said there was authenticating issues

Nope rebooting doesn't help.

*Edit do you mean resetting the router or restarting it?

Weird, I'm sure that was an old message. Unless I had a serious case of the Mondays yesterday :)
Anyway, could you PM me your DSL username? I'd like to take a closer look at the auth logs from my end.

Replied again to you last night. Have you managed to figure out what the problem is?

Hi!

I checked with AfriGuy, and all looks okay with your Business Uncapped account, it looks like the account is authenticating normally, and whilst there were a few disconnections from the ADSL line signal dropping on Monday, it looks to be a lot more stable at the moment.

Are you seeing a delay in authentications from your side?

It dropped once little earlier but seems okay now so far on wifi.

I'm still wondering about why when I plug in cable it shows as no connections? Cable was working perfectly fine before you'll had the issues on Monday but since it hasn't been.

Have you been able to test using a different cable or port on your ADSL modem?

I've tried different ports. I haven't tried a different cable as yet. Will need to go and buy one.

Find it strange that cable would just stop working. Will get a new cable and try it out.

It happens, hey. Stuff breaks. I had a router that I used for about 9 years. Never had a problem, never had to reset it - it was an old Telkom Mega100WR. Then one day, it just died. :(

AfriTeam,

Just a quick one, does Afrihost (MTN) have any plans to peer at NAPAfrica/Teraco?

As latency to Google DNS 8.8.8.8 for example is high, but on other ISP's who peer at NAPAfrica/Teraco it is low.

True, though cable and router is all brand new. Cable working fine before the authentication issues and straight after, wasn't picking up.

Will test a new cable later and see if that works.

As far as I am aware we do peer with Google locally, but I don't know where. I believe we have a Google node on the MTN network (in Cape Town if I'm not mistaken) so I don't think local peering is an issue but I can find out more about how this works in detail.

It's unlikely, I agree but I guess anything is possible.

If it's still not working with a new cable, then what might the problem be?

It could be the network port on the router, the port on the network card on the PC/device or a network config that's not happy with something.

That is all good and well, but Google was an example.

Another would be Cybersmart, Because MTN do not peer at NAPAfrica,

all data from MTN to Cybersmart is routed
MTN -> Telkom -> Cybersmart

All data to Teraco Services
MTN -> VOX -> JINX -> Teraco

All data to Google CDN at Teraco is routed (even though MTN has Google Cache cluster, it is not always used)
Google (173 IP Range)
MTN -> LINX (UK) -> Teraco CPT

How would I test if it's a network config?

Gees, it wil really depend on your network config. Really hard to say off the top of my head. But rather do the physical trial and error before you get into advanced settings :(

My account is not authenticating. It was connected but had stopped working with no throughtput. After rebooting the router, it failed to authenticate.
