Thank you. Hopefully something will happen now that you have escalated it. Something else I am noticing at this moment - speed tests show 3,3 mbps but p2p downloads are slow as hell. The downloads I am trying are excellently seeded and should not be slow. Any ideas?

Have you definitely turned Business Optimisation off? It is active by default, so you would need to log into ClientZone and turn it off.

I was testing P2P on Uncapped last night and speeds were pretty good when I stacked up a few files. Single file downloads are never a great indicator for me.

Business optimisation definitely off. First thing I checked. It was a single download with plenty of seeders which would usually download at around 310 KB/s - tried multiple other well seeded torrents as well - all of them were really slow. Will try stacking a few next time and see. However, I left the download on and just after midnight the speed was close to 300 KB/s.
So I really don't know.....

Any news from Telkom on the fault yet? I see they still list no ETR :( I think the issue is linked to a bigger one in the area, we'll keep pushing them!

No word from them yet.
Hopefully we can get somewhere soon. Not very pleasant at the moment.

Can't see any reported issues, do you have a traceroute you can paste up here? Should give me a better idea of what's going on :)

I'm also having some latency issues and my speeds been fluctuating a bit too. I'm in South of Joburg and I'm very close to the exchange too.

That's definitely a tricky one!

What is concerning me more is that spike in latency that starts on the second hop - although it appears to only be on the third hop - we are starting to see this more and more often as many Telkom Exchanges no longer respond to ICMP requests, which makes diagnosing congestion on the Exchange that much harder.

During which hours do you normally see the jumps in latency?

I know it's frustrating running these tests, but it's the only way we can determine what's really going on :(

I've only noticed this today over the last 2-3 hours.

Really hard to tell here, but I think the latency is being introduced at the exchange :( Have you been able to test another account to replicate the latency?

Hi Afriman.
So I tried stacking up the p2p files as you suggested - speeds still really slow.
Speed test shows 3,34 mbps but can't even muster a meager 0,5 mbps on the p2p downloads.
Rebooted router and made 10000000000% sure that business optimisation is off in cz.
This blows.

Try another ISP that's not on MTN (try a crystal web trial). If it's still the same then it's telkom which is unfortunate, if it's different then it's an easy fix.

Ok. Will try the trial webafrica account I have.
Thanks.
Most probably a Telkom issue as stated previously - but this only happened from about 7pm onwards. Pretty much like clockwork every night.
