So what caused the issue?
A widespread performance issue in a region would point to overloading somewhere in that region...? Only logical?
And IPC is generally the biggest bottleneck, right?

So, for open cards, do you have MRTG graphs or similar of your IPC links over the period?

I have access to most of our IPC logs and graphs, and the times during which we received most of the reports of latencies and reduced throughput, we weren't close to maxing out the IPC capacity in the South. We are working with MTN as well as Telkom to locate the exact cause of the issue, but because it is an intermittent issue it is taking longer than expected to pinpoint it and resolve it.

I was hoping you'd share the graphs :)

In the name of transparency share the graphs, if it's not IPC then surely there is no reason to withhold.

Same here graphs would be nice

:whistling:

I wish it was that easy... You should see the NDA's I had to sign in Blood to even be able to view those graphs and logs.

Seriously though, if I was able to share those graphs with you, I would, but the information on those graphs is high sensitive and classified.

every day after 5 pm and weekends is intermittent?

From what I have been able to figure out, the issue only really became widespread on Friday evening, if you experienced those issues before then, we'll need to into your case individually to try and see what is causing it.

But why though?

Your IPC capacity used to be pretty widely publicised (when you first launched your MTN network). Now it's gone all secret squirrel...

You don't have to post the proper graphs.

Just draw one in mspaint showing max capacity and how far up the usage went.

Would be easy to fuzz out the numbers and only show percentage... But I get the feeling that that percentage is sekrit.

I understand that and look not to step on your toes or anyone, but Ghost aside here I have close family friends who works at telkom and to be honest I have heard on more than one occasion that aftihost runs permi in the very limits of there available capacity.

Now look I am not saying this to do any harm, I mean fck I love you guys, but I also like full honesty and I respect the fact that it won't be good for business to openly come out and say sorry we are running in the red a little bit but it should subside or etc you get the point.

So my actual point was more, I just feel Ghost helped a guy and from what I have heared on numerous occasions from close friends not on the forum, talking real life here, I just have to go with ghost on this one, he assisted the guy.

I'm pretty sure we just publicized how much IPC capacity we were adding at certain points, and you could probably infer the IPC capacity from those numbers, but we've never expressly mentioned the exact capacity.

The IPC capacity and IPC costs are details that we're contractually not allowed to disclose, and doing so at any point could compromise agreements that we have in-place with our IPC provider.

Or

your IPC is under strain and you're being told by your management to NOT let the public know.

I can confirm that we run our IPC close to maximum, to have that amount of IPC capacity and not use would be a serious waste of money, but when we are running it close to maximum we still give ourselves a significant buffer for any spikes in demand and usage. At any point in time when we have available IPC capacity we un-shape our Uncapped users who every quickly consume that extra capacity. Then, when we start seeing increases in demand - and with that buffer we give ourselves quite a bit of leeway - we can kick in the shaping on our Uncapped users kicks in to make sure we have enough capacity available for our Capped and Business Uncapped users.

Well i have had the issues before Friday evening. Was helped by someone at critical care - apparently a fault at the exchange leading to congestion. Been told it could take ages for Telkom to repair. Had numerous faults logged with Telkom. Latest being 17ATK240215 - still open.
AH Ticket number - GOF-907-12757.

Phoned Telkom on Saturday was told that they will ask the person in charge of the fault to contact me. Even tried escalating the fault at http://www.telkom.co.za/sites/contactus/emailus&formId=13620481281

AH has given the following suggestions:

- pause your service with Afrihost - although you can only pause for 3 months maximum
- cancel the service, & signup at a later stage, when the exchange has been upgraded - which requires an annual budget by Telkom
- continue to use the service as is, perhaps downgrade to a lower package considering throughput is limited.

None of these suggestions solve anything in my opinion. I am paying for a service and I would like to receive it.

Afrifolks I think we all appreciate the effort and the flak that you guys take on here.
I understand that you try and help everyone as best you can with the resources that are given to you and it really is appreciated.
I do however disagree with how Ghost was spoken to etc but nevertheless.

Right, this is what annoys me. ( I have mentioned it three times in the past aswell )

So there was a widespread issue on Friday yes?
Ok great, these things happen we all understand. But WHY was your website not updated? Again everything is stating 100%
Have a look back I even posted a screenshot of it.

Speaking of playing open cards and transparency surely that is not being transparent at all?

This was more of an oversight by the guys that were monitoring the network over the weekend, we've taken steps to ensure that the communication on this level is significantly improved so that when we do notice something off, we will make sure to communicate that more effectively.
