I am not representing another ISP. I work for telkom in the lines department and NOT the Telkom Internet Department.

But you are quoting information from an "internal" perspective, and using this as the basis of your opinion. Firstly, your information is wrong or misinterpreted. Secondly, the mere fact that you have mentioned that you work for Telkom means that you now represent that company in some capacity and your comments are subject to review against Telkom's code of conduct. We don't buy IPC from the lines department, so again you are misusing information which you are not privy to and don't seem to grasp fully.

I think you should speak to one of your Telkom superiors to get clarity on what you have done, it's not OK in most companies.

That's why I mentioned that they have no clue what to do after this is tried, and fails.

Yeah, that's not good. Port reset is a good first option (in specific circumstances) but there a lots of steps that should follow :(

While I post on this Forum, I am posting in my personal capacity, My views of other companies are personal views and not of the company I work for.

Either way, Issues will always come to light, Especially on mybroadband. All communication from my side to you will cease from this post onwards.

Enjoy your monday :)

You are always welcome to post your own views, and your own experience. But claiming to have inside information (when you don't) and then using the fact that you work for a company like Telkom to add weight to your opinion is just plain wrong.

If you're not going to do that again, then by all means, we'd love to hear about your personal experience :)

Let's be honest, this will only detract weight from his opinion. ;)

Jokes aside, I know some VERY clever people at Telkom. I know some VERY clever people at Eskom too.

I think I just unravelled my own point there :(

I for one did not see where he said he works for Telkom until he was asked? Nowhere in the discussions we had last night was it mentioned.

I agree with what he ( ghostR ) says about what he posts here, is in his personal capacity. All he did was try and help?
He would have been a nice contact to have on here as most of the people still have their lines with Telkom. Quite frankly it seems we need all the help we can get!

Anyways...

i agree it is no use attacking or chasing people away that can help with the problems we have
after all who was lying the most last year about the problems we had then till it was fixed
we are also tired of posting speed tests and doing trace routes as we are paying for a service that must work

Agree with you 100%, we provide the service and it should definitely work.
Some aspects are out of our hands though, especially in terms of line management - and there's only ever so much we can do on that. Please understand that we ask for these tests so we can have a better idea of what's happening - it's really hard troubleshooting with "it's broken"

I agree 500000 percent. I've had some dealing with ghostR and he is a flipping gem of a contact to have... Don't squander it when people are willing to help out!

Nothing against the afrifolks, but I'm with Ghost on this one, we where lied to in the past and that whole debacle lets not go there, but in my honest opinion all the help one can get is nice and I also have to agree he is one hell of a contact to have.

( Shiat Ghost... You might get all TelkomSa's PM's now...) I'm so sorry

Yeah, he genuinely wanted to try and assist.
I very much doubt he did it maliciously at all?

He clearly knows what he is talking about but as he said...
Either way, Issues will always come to light, Especially on mybroadband.

While this is here though I would like to say thank you ghostR for trying to assist.
I appreciate the effort.

The issue was not so much that ghostR was posting on our Threads, it was the manner in which he was doing it. Whilst I am sure you are all aware of the issue that many of our Users in the South experienced over the weekend - increased latencies and reduced throughput - ghostR immediately blamed the issue on IPC capacity and made it appear that he had proof that it was the IPC. It was definitely not the IPC, and he misrepresented the information that he had access to.

So whilst I really appreciate ghostR helping out, I do think we need to play open cards with each other, and be clear exactly what information we have access to.

We haven't always handled things as well as we could have in the past, but I think we've made great strides towards the transparency especially with our MyBB users. I've especially made sure to always keep up to date on our network status as well as many outages and network-related issues as possible to ensure that I can answer any questions you guys may have.

And as I posted earlier, we appreciated anyone willing to assist ourselves and our Users, but we have to be very clear on our intentions, and our identities here on these Threads. ghostR was posting as if he had access to very specific information, which even if he did, was not something that should be shared on a public forum. Our IPC information is considered propriety, and cannot be accessed except by specific Afrihost and very specific Telkom personnel.

So what caused the issue?
A widespread performance issue in a region would point to overloading somewhere in that region...? Only logical?
And IPC is generally the biggest bottleneck, right?

So, for open cards, do you have MRTG graphs or similar of your IPC links over the period?

Look, having ghostR around is useful as he is able to assist even in an unofficial capacity.

This should not be seen as taking sides, but it is not often that we have access to someone who can assist with line issues from a technical standpoint. The TelkomZA account is swamped, and you don't always get a response from Charl (if he still works there).

I don't expect Afrihost to welcome his posts with open arms, as it can easily turn into a he said vs she said thing like what happened here, but banning him from this thread is a bit harsh. Even ranger pops in here from time to time when comments are passed about Telkom which are untrue.
