I just had two minutes of zero throughput. Line was fine, account was logged in, everything was working up until two minutes ago and then throughput came back all of a sudden.

Very odd. Lemme run some checks with our team to see what the issue is here.

Erm Afriguy, my session just disconnected and I have just gone from NNTP at 10Mb/s to 0-1KB/s I have a query open with MTN under reference HDW 789 116 65.

Could you look into what the hell just happened?

Ok seems to be back :D going to take it as a good omen (last bump in the road :P)

Yeah, I had the same problem....plus pages are taking longer to load now....

Browsing local sites now feels as if I'm doing it on a 512k line. News24 just took over 40 seconds to load fully.

257ms is a Ping I've never seen before on my line, its usually closer to 200-210ms.

Hhhmm, looks like there was a glitch here. Our guys are checking it out, looks to be normalising though.
Lets see how it goes over the next 20 mins or so.

Cool, lets hope its the only one.

Happened again, three minutes this time. Refreshing this page took ten seconds.

Average throughput on my line is now less than 400Kb/s.

My mom's currently on a Skype call and she isn't being affected after the dropoff.

Sorry about this :(
I'm following this up to see what's happening.

Edit Is your latency affected by this too?

The biggest problem with these threads and claims of connection drops is that the reps have no hard evidence on our side in the form of a detailed log.

I have just installed a tool called Internet Connectivity Monitor on my home AD/DC/DHCP/DNS server (Win Server 2012). I have set it to ping google.com and afrihost.com every 30 seconds.

If anyone else can suggest similar tools I will also use them to monitor the connection at home. This is the only way to effectively monitor an internet connection, rather than seeing if you experience a drop in your surfing.

I have been having great service from AH Business for the last few months, I couldn't be happier. But I still feel it is prudent to actively monitor the connection to see if there is any disruption to the service that I am not aware of.

Pingplotter free version is also a good tool.

Hold on to something. Maybe get a drink of water.

Pinging www.afrihost.co.za [197.242.144.102] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 197.242.144.102: bytes=32 time=3541ms TTL=58
Reply from 197.242.144.102: bytes=32 time=3539ms TTL=58
Request timed out.
Reply from 197.242.144.102: bytes=32 time=3542ms TTL=58

Ping statistics for 197.242.144.102:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 3, Lost = 1 (25% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 3539ms, Maximum = 3542ms, Average = 3540ms

Almost two minutes later, things return to normal. A tracert I was running in command prompt showed me an average of 3000ms ping to afrihost.co.za. For some reason though, it wouldn't save all of the information in the clipboard.

Not cool, could you PM me please.

I'll probably be grabbing a strong milkshake this evening :p

I actually kept all 3 of my businesses accounts this month thinking this would of been resolved but to no avail.
I don't do P2P only download via SFTP and getting 200kb/s on my lines on 10meg.

It def the ISP and I am 100% certain some form of shaping or throttling is happening here (even tho they disagree).
I was hoping it would of been resolved by now...what was I thinking!!!! wasted money on 3 x 10 meg Business accounts, also hoping for a refund is like pissing in the wind...

Oh well This will be the last month I am with afrihost, it has been brilliant since I used it for 8 months, but the past 4 weeks absolute shocking.
Purchased a webafrica account and all is good.
such a pity ...

Funny you should mention that...have friends in both Durbs and JHB who say the same thing...sftp (different sources for each) are limited to about 250kB odd. One is on 10mb, the other 20mb.

The account has been performing better than the woeful 0.09 Mb/s of yesterday, but speeds are very unstable. Fluctuating quite a lot.

Yip and this is def an Afrihost Problem .... Throttling/shapping of the Business account
I just changed account with webafrica and my line returns to full speed.

Again i really think afrihost should be transparent with there Clients.
once more if you feel you are charging to little, let the client know or increase price so that we can have the service we signed up for.
But suppose it like everything in life.. you got to give the some cheese to catch the mouse ...
AH promise uncapped/unshaped business Accounts are the real deal..
contrary these accounts have become a pain... :(
