Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback - 2

That's a bit weird because demand was actually peaking well before and had dropped significantly by 21:30, so there should have been no increase in latency. Did you run a trace at that time?

Unfortunately no. I will do one the next time it happens.

Yet YouTube won't stream for ****. Am honestly sorry that I didn't cancel Afrihost simply isn't what it once was :/

Yesterday everything felt great, the whole day, by 6am Sunday still flying. By 8:30am back to the unstable painfully slow experience I have come to expect every weekend over the past few months. It is as if someone unplugs a server somewhere Sunday morning to plug in their kettle.

Ok by the fact that no one seems to have mentioned. I'm in cpt southern suburbs and my Internet has been completely dead for the last half hour.

Yeah, my side too.
But once again, it will be blamed on congested exchanges, or that the system looks fine and there shouldn't be issues, etc etc etc.

We can't report on an issue that we're not aware of. I think this thread is evidence that we follow up on reports. We all use regular Afrihost accounts at home, so we would also have picked up on issues. I can quite honestly say that my account was working great for browsing, torrents and the like.

So I think it's always best to post some testing results so I can get an idea of what you are experiencing, before we assume that this a network wide failure :(

And once again the weekend starts with jumpy ping to ipc

I see a few people ping IP addresses within our network and this is problematic, especially pinging the BRAS or "the IPC".

It's far more useful to run a full traceroute to a regular IP like 8.8.8.8 or afrihost.com so that we have a baseline to work with.

Show some proof? ;)
Running perfectly here, I would like to compliment Afrihost! Sucks about the ClientZone, I like to monitor how much I move day by day, but I dont even mind anymore. I have seen there have been changes on some protocols and I had s signature loaded for a game that looked like it was being shaped, and now it work like a *&$%ing dream

Thanks for the positive feedback. We've just done a major drive to get all our signatures up to date and make our shaping more efficient so that latency dependant realtime services can run as awesomely as possible :)

Sins 23:00 27-03-2015 My Internet is down.. Can't PPP Authenticate for any Account, even Telkom Guest Account. Went down for no reason. Every thing working here (Telephone Line).

And let me Guess, It's weekend. So this is not going to get fixed soon??

If you can't authenticate even on the guest account I would guess that this is an area issue at the DSLAM. If this problem is at the next level, Guest accounts route differently as I understand it.

Did your connection come back or is it still down? PM me if you're still down :(

My YouTube tests seemed pretty good this weekend, so I don't think this was network wide. Which DNS settings are you using?

Please forgive me if I am misunderstanding you, but shouldn't all services, not just real time, be running as awesomely as possible for us on business uncapped - ie shaping should not apply to us?

Its definitely not a plan or strategy, it depends on realtime demand. This is why we shape (Uncapped, not Business) in order to manage demand and keep realtime services at peak performance, and also Capped and Business accounts at maximum performance level possible.

My reports show that demand was managed well within limits over the weekend. Did you run any tests, like traceroutes, over the time that service was poor?

Yes indeed, sorry I think I was talking more about Uncapped - where shaping is applied. So we shape Uncapped accounts to bring demand down but preserve realtime experience - and to ensure that Capped and Business run at premium on all services.

Ok cool beans. Fully understood and appreciated.

Sorry to hear that. Which suburb specifically? There have been one or two outages over the weekend :(
