For the most part, I am more than confident in Support's ability to assist with queries, and fault resolution, but if there is a case where this did not happen, you should definitely raise this with us here, and we will look into it from our side.

The line sync looked a bit off, I've reset the line, would you mind restarting your ADSL modem then testing again. If the speed and latency is still off would you mind running a traceroute to Afrihost.com.

Same boat on and off for a week now

I've been seeing a lot of reports of NNTP downloads being problematic, are you seeing reduced throughput on your HTTP or P2P torrents?

The funny thing is they will stay at 0KB/s and then 30min later they shoot up to full speed.

All computers are set to manually update, so Windows is not busy with auto updates. This issue has only started when all thee speed issues started.

The Business Uncapped account performance will be very similar to your Afrihost Capped account, except that your account will be uncapped. The only difference is that you are able to enable to Business Optimization from your ClientZone, which is basically a shaping policy that you can enable and disable at will. This is aimed largely at small to medium businesses that want to prevent P2P downloads from occurring during office hours.

As I've mentioned in several posts, I have this same experience with NNTP. In my case the change takes place at precisely the same time every night. Download speeds hit rock bottom early in the evening (often 0KB/s) and then just after 10:30pm in the blink of an eye it suddenly shoots up to full speed. This pattern is repeated even over weekends, when daytime speeds are fine but it's the same story in the evening: there is a virtual standstill, and then at 10:32 BOOM it shoots up to full speed.

All the while, my overall line speed is great:



Afrihost, how do you explain this discrepancy if there is no shaping, as you keep assuring us? Can congestion selectively affect only NNTP and torrents, while allowing other traffic to flow freely?

oh good so the sharping etc is still the same that it used to be last 2013-2014 (when i was with afrihost)

General browsing also seems slow. I did as torrent test and that seems to be ok, but not full speed. Any HTTP download seems far slower than normal. Small files seem ok, large download usually stop downloading
