If its a Telkom issue - take it up with them.
I have no intention of taking back the line and being a hero .... this is your job for which I pay you.

Furthermore - at this point, I also have no intention of finding an alternate ISP.
AH can deliver good service and this time should be no exception,

Just dont ask me to do more tracerts and ballet, you have the data you need, and a ticket and a customer.......

Trace complete.

Your exchange is clearly congested. No ISP can fix that.

I'm serious.

I had the Telkom guy come out after AH had logged a fault.

I showed him that its a line issue, but this guy kept on about the router, so I asked him to leave.

AH on the otherhand suggested it was a port issue.

Me, I couldnt care what or who is to blame, as long as it gets sorted.

I have had this issue before, AH worked through it, as did MWEB back in the day.

The reason I ask the ISP to look after my line is simply - they can deal with Telkom rather than me. There is only so much Telkom I can take.

Yeah, I had the exact same thing...

Not completely losing connection anymore thank god so I will complain again only after the new modem/router combo comes. The Telkom guy insisted on it being the router. Even showing an intermittent 200+ms 2nd hop on their modem. Incredibly frustrating!

I can still forsee a bill incoming for an unnecessary callout which will make me rage. My internet is not right, 400+ms on the 1st hop is ridiculous.

Quick question - when does the latency on a the second hop start pointing toward congestion at the exchange? Above what number of ms?

Anything above 50ms is a bit suspicious, and above 100ms must be investigated.

Thank you for your response. I am comparing tracerts that have been done from my side over the last few months.
My 2nd hop latency is usually between 20 ~ 30 ms.

Look at this:

Last Result:
Download Speed: 170 kbps (21.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 850 kbps (106.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 35 ms

and this is on a 10MB Business Account, these clowns should be ashamed of the "service" they supply. Tracerts, etc will not fix a broken network,

Ping was consistently good the whole day up until 8:30pm or so.

I would kill for that around about now.

Although that is my latency on the 2nd hop, I have congestion at my exchange which is getting worse plus now getting random times that my connection drops. Numerous faults logged with Telkom.

It seems that torrenting is an issue too from the few responses here. Maybe something to look into?

I know my mates who are not mybb forumites are having same - torrents are like e-toll payments - non existent.
