Hi!

There is a network wide authentication issue at the moment, and linked to this that when authentication does occur the User is shunted into the Fallback Bandwidth Pool.

Our Team is working on this now with MTN and we should have everyone sorted out in no-time.

Oh okay. Thanks.

Unable to do any work so hopefully it's sorted soon.

Any news?

Okay, Critical Care just got an update from Telkom, and the previous Network Fault affecting our area is definitely still an issue, and there is no ETA yet from Telkom themselves when this issue will be addressed.

If you are seeing a significant difference in performance between your VPN and non-VPN traffic, we just need you to take screenshots showing the difference between the VPN and non-VPN traffic and we'll get those through to Telkom ASAP to advise us on what is going on.

Will do some testing over the next few nights and send results.

I gave up holding onto the phone, resorted to live chat which no-one attended to. Luckily I still have 70 mb from an old Webafrica account just to go online now. But I need internet to be able to work.

Why is it only Afrihost that is affected by a Telkom fault?

This is a network-wide issue affecting the Afrihost network... Dianysis however is experiencing a separate issue to this issue whereby his Exchange is suffering from congestion and damaged hardware which Telkom is in the process of correcting.

So you have confirmation from Telkom that they are actually doing something about my problem?

Yup, Telkom is definitely working on the congestion-issue, no indication of when the issue will be resolved though. :erm:

I'm trying to find out any sort of useful information, but it sounds like an entire network is going to have to be replaced on the Exchange.

I have a dream that one day - before I die - I can use Internet at any time of day without bloody congestion.
Maybe when my unborn kids are grandparents they might have vdsl in my area, never mind fibre.
Joys of living in a small suburb that only has two exchanges.

It sounds like if you are in an area without VDSL you will probably receive Fibre - skipping VDSL entirely - over the next few years. Hopefully before your unborn kids are born!

Hey @AfriGenie,

Our (family) business has 6 business lines with afrihost, and we are experiencing bad connections all over. We have a business line in dainfern, fourways, 2 in pretoria, and 2 in cape town. Previously, we were with Altech, and to be honest, we have never had so many problems with Afrihost, versus Altech. Since joining in Feb 2015, I was personally responsible for moving the whole company to Afrihost, and will most likely recommend a move away, unless we can get feedback from Afrihost, as to why our internet connections are so unstable. And please don't blame telkom, we have had the technicians at the office in dainfern and fourways, and I have even performed a speed test using the telkom guest account with no issues.

Kindly DM me for more information.

Could you please explain what you mean by network-wide issue? It is only Afrihost that is affected by this.

By network-wide, I mean Users throughout South Africa using Afrihost as a service provider have reported being affected. The problem of the network issue has been resolved and we're now seeing latency and throughput return to normal.

For the moment I would recommend leaving your ADSL modem on, as we'll be restarting each session to make sure it is assigned to the correct resource pool.

AfriGenie do you have any idea when this might be resolved, we are due for loadshedding 8-10pm and would really like internets afterward?

The device causing the issue has already been replaced, and with the network-wide latency pretty much back to normal, I'm pretty sure you should see your connection running as it should within the next hour at the most.
