We shouldn't be seeing disconnections from a network perspective, but I have seen that Telkom have major national maintenance underway at the moment and this could affect some people. From what I have see maintenance takes 8 hours plus and people experience disconnects or very slow performance during that time :(

Speeds definitely look better. Latency should improve during non-peak :(

What you are describing is shaping.

Why is it that I can stream video but not game? The first casualty in shaping is latency, which is what is occuring.

Probably very likely. Remember we have several thousand users logged on at any time, so at those volumes, you get very distinct spikes and dropoffs in demand that are compounded as several hundred people get the same idea at the same time.

No network can operate without some very basic guidelines (QoS). Even your router had basic QoS so that it has something to fall back onto when it manages traffic. Even the autobahn has lanes ;)

We are receiving reports of poor internet speed and high latency in our North network (Gauteng and surrounding areas). Our network engineers are investigating the possible cause and we hope to have this resolved as quickly as possible. Yup, this would appear to be affecting our Users in the North to a significantly greater degree than in the days and weeks before this. Our Team will hopefully have everyone running more or less normally as soon as possible.

Yes I am being affected in Lynnwood. Downloading drivers for my new keyboard at 40KBps on 4Mbit line. That's 1/10th of the speed!
 
Steam has been downloading at full speed for a few hours and suddenly it's going at almost exactly half that speed and not improving. The Arkham Knight preload will take 18 hours to download at this rate... Sigh.

I know it's not great, sorry about that.
We should see things normalise pretty soon.
 
Things are getting worse. On 8Mbps.
