Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback - 2

Like i mentioned before. we in the south have been getting a slow and steady speed decline.

Very visible in Youtube, Netflix and Streaming app. Where it takes quite a while to load. Then streams, then stops to load again..

Also download speeds via torrents or even direct downloads on a 6mbit Uncapped business is not up to par with other ISP's.

6mbit is 1024K x 6. = 6144K

6144K / 8 (to change bits to bytes) is 768Kb per second.

now realistically telkom does not give you full speed, as there are contention ratios..etc.etc.. (you can remove at least 10% of that as a permanent speed).

768kb - 10% is 691kb per second. <i never see those speeds on Afrihost 6mbit uncapped ever..>

Hard to see where this is coming in :(
Have you tested with another account? Which area are you in?

Seems like my torrents going slow on both accounts. Same with direct download.

Starts off downloading at normal speed then over the next 30 seconds speeds just drop.

We know that things aren't that great, but I promise you we have improvements on the way!

That looks better :(
What area are you in? Not seeing any general latency pop up in my monitoring.

improvements when ?

Is that like Telkom's imminent phrase? Upgrades are imminent. Then 3years later, the lines are still at 4mbit or 10mbit (same as it was 5years prior)

No ETA for the improvements, but we're working hard on implementing these are quickly as possible. We're keeping everyone posted on any updates/ changes here and our noticeboard.

the bottom line is we see they are blocking certain stuff off to make others work
so much for enough ipc

Nothing is blocked on our network.
Not sure if you read through AfriMan's reply to you a few weeks back? You really can't keep making unsubstantiated claims without letting us at least check your account. You're yet to get in touch with your account info.

electrofreeze said:
you have looked at our account more than once and then the answer was there is nothing wrong and your line is with telkom so dont throw stones as we have bigger ones
just sort out your network so it can work normal as there is more than enough tests and complains about the same things
ps i am not your dude
I think the intention was not to be disrespectful here, apologise if you felt it was said poorly.

Ultimately we have answered many of the general questions regarding the state of the network several times over, and I don't think we have any new information to provide except to confirm where we have also seen increases in demand and latency in general. We're definitely not blocking Microsoft services, that would make no sense whichever way you cut it.

I believe that we've asked for your details to test with you several times. I totally understand that you may not want to participate, but then posting your own theories and not expecting us challenge false conclusions is a little unfair. As always, you are welcome to PM anyone of the team here and we will be more than happy to work with you to troubleshoot.

Why is Afrihost shaping my Business account? I'm in Cape Town Southern Suburbs. Why does Afrihost accept new business accounts when they CLEARLY don't have the capacity to give them fair service? 500 pages of empty promises attached to a truck load of T&C's.

Yet another crappy service provider brought to you by South Africa.

No shaping takes place on Business accounts, how are you determining this is happening?
Any tests that I can look at?

I've send you a message with my username. I'm determining this is happening by the amount of complaints about the same issue on this page in only the last few hours. Everything was fine this morning until I reset my router and then everything was crap. And now it's really bad...

After looking at your line, I can see a stack of port errors induced by the exchange. I'll need you to run some tests, as requested via PM, to advise further.
Let's chat via PM.

Saw a large spike where minecraft chests would take 5s to open. Youtube still isn't streaming like it should is dropping down or stopping in the middle of play.

We're trying to normalise the latency, specifically in the South at the moment :(
Seeing some higher than normal latency in the area.
