Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback - 2

No, Contention is the MAXIMUM possible demand vs ACTUAL total capacity (FINITE). You are referring to current demand vs available capacity as a metric. They are two very different things. The purpose of a contention ratio is to provide an indication to a user of a minimum statistically guaranteed service level/speed.

This exactly. Personally I would like to know the contention ratio of the business accounts. Because it CAN BE FINITELY stated. You have a certain capacity available to 10mbps Business users, and sold (or should i say oversold), a certain number of 10mbps Business accounts. And from there it can be calculated. Its not rocket science.

And according to the ISPA, when my internet runs at less then 256kbps permanently, it is NOT considered Broadband. Considering how many people (just on this thread) are downloading at 0-5KB/s, maybe the Business accounts should be advertised as dial-up?

Not even a year ago you guys had these same capacity issues. Well now it's actually worse as last time it didn't affect the Business and capped guys.

Last time they claimed to have learnt from their experiences and said that they would implement improved network/capacity planning to avoid any issue in the future. :erm:

Is it just me or has P2P been completely dead from this afternoon? Downloads aren't even starting.

No, its not just you,all my torrents are on stalled, this is now going to become the norm with Afrihost Business accounts, just like the "testing" period with their "Home Uncapped" became the norm.. They will deny it though.

this is effing bull****. it's well past 10pm and this account is performing like a pos. Fix your crap already AH, we paid for a service we are not getting. Seriously tired of this now. I will never ever support you again and will recommend everyone not to touch you even with a 10 foot poll. /rant over

P2P completely dead in the water.

Sad Panda.
Cancellation Coming your way.

P2P dead. Like popped corn. The mealie won't grow again.

Afriguy ..... getting nervous,

Please reassure us on this,,,,,,,,,,

Afriguy ...

I really am on your side, but help me ... There must be a somebody - a Gian or a manager ...
I need to explain to them how to deal with customers, without feeding them BS from your staff.

I have asked about my account ... and fine, the comms are flowing, but its useless information.

''I have asked accounts to look into it'' being the last answer ... this does not help.
The fact that I have been on the forum, sent a PM, sent another 3 mails to support am no closer to sorting this out id not lekker.

Please either say - we will fix it today or we can have it sorted by whenever, but the lack lustre answers without any REAL answer is really BS and not too cool...

I am really all for AH, but you need to be on top of your game........

Well I have had enough of Afrihost! I sent an email and now they are using words like "But because of the High network demand all our accounts Where pressed down to slow access"

This in my opinion th is shaping or throttling is it not? Please explain why you are shaping?

Also, are you or are you not going to buy extra capacity to keep up with the high network demand, cause in my opinion, the reason why you cant keep up with the high demand is because of lack of capacity?

Anyways, like I said in a post that got deleted because I got personal and angry, I am done with Afrihost! I am running a business on the account and rely on it to function properly!

Please Afrihost guy, do not say something like sorry to see you go, I feel it to be non genuine and a little condescending! These problems have been going on for a few months now and the excuses have become tiresome.

My advise, sort out the problems before too many people leave! Guys like us are always a reference to our customers and we will take our customers elsewhere too.

What the hey? Suddenly my nntp traffic which was at 0 is now suddenly full speed again...

08:20 and torrents heavily shaped AGAIN.
This has NOTHING to do with contention.... this is a blatant shaping policy. It is impossible for the reduction in speed to happen at exactly the same time every morning (and other times in the day), and ONLY on one protocol at a time.

Last night at 23:00 my NNTP traffic dropped to 10% of line speed.... AH needs to get more capacity immediately. This is BS.

Another thing... Where the hell is our discount for this month of sub-par performance, and even worse support.
No more lip service.... a lot of us have been through this 3 times in the last 6 months. We have been more than patient, more than accommodating. It's time for some quid quo pro from AH.... the so-called "trust relationship" you guys were banging on about a few months ago does NOT only work ONE way.... You have to give a bit, especially if you keep taking (... our money!).

ETA... NOW ALREADY!
STABILITY... NOW ALREADY!
SERVICE DELIVERY... NOW ALREADY!

I'm sorry to hear that you are feeling angry. I think its clear that we've let you down and haven't lived up to your expectations.

With regard to shaping, we're not throttling or blocking P2P but we're trying wherever we can to improve overall network experience. I can't confirm when we will be upgrading but this is being dealt with by our Technical Director. As soon as he confirms, I will post further updates.

I totally understand your post here, and I think the quality of information is a very important thing, rather than just hitting the reply button. We do focus a lot on taking more time to do first time fixes, and this is maybe something we need to focus more on (or do continuous training to ensure is entrenched in the culture). I think generally we are very good, but I do think there are more examples than we'd like of where we've fallen short as a team.

How can you in all honesty say that you are not shaping or throttling p2p... this is the reality man... we are been shaped, throttled, optimised to pitiful levels.
This game of semantics is getting old now...
Your customers would have a lot more trust and faith in you as a company if you just state the truth eg We have a capacity issue, to alleviate the line congestation we will be shaping p2p between these hours... and new capacity will arrive at such and such a date.
I'm sure most customers will at least be understandable to your issues then, but to carry on with this game of semantics is just pissing people off no end.

I know that performance has been less than what we've come to expect in the last few weeks and we fully acknowledge that we've struggled to meet with current demand with our available resources on the network.

Our Technical Director has been focussed solely on improving our clients experience today while he negotiated additional capacity with MTN and Telkom, which he has confirmed has now been approved. I don't have any confirmed or rough dates for the upgrade, but I have been told that we're pushing for a fast resolution. As soon as I have a confirmed date.

We couldn't confirm capacity upgrades prior to this as this was still under negotiation, but now that the process is underway, we can confirm that the network will be upgraded.

So when managers, supervisors, and support staff said it was ordered a week ago...

You say they were wrong, now you say it was under negotiation.

i.e. we cannot believe any communication channel except you?
