Hmmm... confused... AH 1GB is MTN not IS.

I am on a WebAfrica account now as my AH Capped is titsup again... and kids are streaming without death threats... so WebAfrica (IS) is working fine at the moment here in CT.

Badly worded. My IS account is not working so i switched to AH 1gb and its also broken even though its mtn.

What a surprise... Lag.

Seriously, if you are going to be part of MTN's network, the network should at least not be composed of 30% faeces.

Honestly thinking of going back to Telkom at this stage. This is exactly what happened to them, and the reps were obviously told "everything will be fine" but in actual fact the network is a sack of crap and hasn't been upgraded in decades.

Also I'm paying nearly double for this and it is simply ****ty 70% of the time.

hmmmm... interesting. Note how both Axxess and Afrihost are routed AND authenticated by the exact same MTN servers/IP addresses?

So much for having different, or managing their own respective networks separately
Maybe this is why the "negotiations" took so long???? Maybe it was a 4-way decision that had to be reached between AH, Axxess, MTN and Telkom????
...I seeeeeeee..... de plot tickens :p

EDIT: Me thinks we are "contending" for the same overall IPC as Axxess clients :erm:

No, it is congestion, they just haven't done a single ****ing thing good about it.

Back to normal this morning. Guess everyone's overnight downloads finished. Durban IPC needs some serious work, Afrihost/MTN.

And another weekend where Afrihost is earning every award. Playstation Network has been inaccessible for the last 3 hours. Last 3 days, playing Destiny resulted in frequent disconnects. VPN connection to the data-centre drops every 10 minutes. Tunnel connection to Oracle database server times out. Remote desktop connections are suddenly disconnecting.

So pretty much any real-time connectivity is bloody broken. Yes, great, downloads work perfectly fine, but when one picks a business uncapped product, I do not expect these type of issues. @Afrihost: You should really ensure that your business customers get the service they pay for. I doubt I would have had that many issues with any other ISP at this point in time.

Anyone got any recommendations? Moving back to Telkom or any other ISP?

ALL ISP's are crap at the moment... even my VOX Fat Pipe is up the creek without a paddle. Local speeds are good, but international is limited to 100kB/s on a 10Mb line.

AH is all over the place... still getting frequent timeouts with NO through put at all.... when will this end?

There seem to be major issues with all my ISP accounts (except MWEB). Throughput is in the toilet, especially international.

I am starting to suspect that even though some ISP are to blame, Telkom is the one common denominator. I think their new policy of enforcing their FUP has had a blanket effect on ALL accounts and ISP's, not just their clients. Maybe someone made a stuff-up and thought it might be cool the enforce the FUP on the user LINES, as opposed to their ISP accounts?

...this might explain the sorry state of internet at the moment? I can't see how every ISP in the country is all of a sudden experiencing massive up-take and contention at the same time.

Gaming is nearly impossible. Getting pings of 1000+ms on average in Diablo 3. Tested both Axxess and Afrihost and they are equally bad so something on the MTN network must be messed up.

Let's not blame Telkom for ISP issues.

You're pointing the finger in the wrong direction. I am pretty sure that in the case of AH the fact that they are ordering more capacity means that their current capacity was saturated or else they would be blaming Telkom publicly as all ISPs do when they're not getting what they paid for.

Or (as explained by AH) "optimisation" is in place which in other words means other protocols (such as HTTP) are being prioritised over your gaming traffic. I would call this shaping but AH seems to think it's not.

Hi,
I dont know... but i seem to be very lucky... I'm am on the 4mb uncapped business account, and i have NZB's downloading all day on and night on p443.. and it seems to stay at 390-410k/s for most of the time... there may be an hour or 3 in the day when it drops to 150-250, but I'm ok with that for the moment. Perhaps its my exchange that is just running smoothly for the last month of 2....

Nobody is taking the blame away from AH... I am the first to lay blame at their doorstep (where it usually belongs), but there have been times where ALL my ISP accounts have been just as poor (especially international). Let me not get into the shaping that is NOT happening (sarcasm).

I wish you weren't right but every thread here proves it. It is VERY strange that every ISP has gone to hell at once and enforced unhealthy "optimization" systems even on accounts advertised as unshaped. I myself have been looking to jump ship from Axxess for example, but see trouble everywhere else as well.
