Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback - 2

In order to solve their current problem Afrihost would literally have to close sign ups to new customers and get a few IPC upgrades in so as to have enough bandwidth for the current user and have extra for future sign ups. That would be just to catch up and get a little ahead.
Thing is though, doing so would stop the money rolling in and cost them a fair bit and they can't have that now can they...

In the past - barring one or two exceptions - we have managed to maintain our network at decent performance levels even as our client base expanded significantly. The IPC upgrades are a significant investment, stopping any new sign-ups would mean that the upgrades would be delayed and only completed at a significantly slower pace. I do believe we are getting better of tracking and predicting the user bandwidth usage patterns and taking them into account.

I understand what you're saying, you need the funding to purchase the expansions/upgrades; however, at the pace you're going you'll never be able to catch up to the demand as your user base grows exponentially faster than you can provide the service.

The capacity was less of an issue this time round, due to the change in user usage patterns, the time of day when bandwidth was consumed gradually shifted as streaming has become more popular and displaced Peer2Peer as the largest source of bandwidth consumption.

These changes in usage patterns have now been taken into account and will ensure that this type of issue is significantly less likely from recurring.

Well Afrihost has cancelled all future business relationships with me.

In the spirit of this thread.

I am sad to see you go Afrihost. I wish you all the best in your future endeavours. May your clients to come not actually expect the service you are advertising.

Regards
Requiem.

I see what you did there... I like it!

THEY cancelled your account ?

I know the past few weeks have been tough, I really do appreciate you gritting through this period, things are looking better, and will hopefully remain so as the upgrades in the South come fully online.

S**t happens sometimes. I realised it's stupid to ditch Afrihost after more than two years of exceptional service over a very temporary issue. I haven't been nearly as affected as many in this thread have claimed to be, so I'm not sure what's up with that.

Streaming seems fine, and speeds are good atm (8Mbit):

Thanks for sticking it out with us, it's much appreciated :D
Great to hear that things are looking up!

Wow Afrihost.

Regardless of "context", that response from Oscar was not called for. There is ALWAYS a mature way to handle a situation. Really disappointed me to see what I thought was a "decent" support department act like that.

Anyway why I am here.
Cant even stream Youtube videos at 480p currently. So much for a lunch break where I can relax and watch a few videos while I eat. Thanks

Sorry to hear about the streaming issues, is this for all sources of only certain streaming sites/ services?

This is just Youtube in the browser. So video streaming over HTTP/HTTPs. It buffers nicely on load. Then gets stuck, goes to 144p (I dont even know why this option exists in Youtube, its horrible but anyway), and then continues playing at 144p. I have to manually force it to 480p+ and then wait for it buffer before watching.

And this is on 10mbps Business. Nothing going on in the background.

Not great at all :(
What's your latency like?

Er... really? How is this screenshot useful Rickster, there's absolutely no context.
What line speed do you have? For all we know you're on a 40Mbps line and only getting a fraction of what you're supposed to with that 112kB/s.

Well to be fair I did say I was getting full speed.

If I do use sarcasm I would indicate so.

I specifically believe this is bandwidth related, as if I try to download any software (SQL Server Express, etc). It goes very slow. Also on 144p on Youtube it doesnt have any issues buffering (or if I listen to albums of audio on youtube).

However gaming (or anything requiring low bandwidth/ good ping) runs perfectly. So I would assume that anything that requires a decent bandwidth is problematic.

There shouldn't be any performance issues in the North - do you have any tests that I can look at?
