What are your guys gateways for your business versus capped accounts.

The gateway should be the first hop after your router.

Example: (105.236.3.129 being my capped accounts gateway)

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms my.router [192.168.1.1]
2 7 ms 6 ms 6 ms 105-236-3-129-esr-lo.mtnbusiness.co.za [105.236.3.129]

Here are my respective results on capped and business:

105.236.3.129 - Cappped
196.7.106.11 - Business

Im assuming the gateways would be different for each region. I am in Pretoria.

I am trying to establish a pattern for the performance because it seems we are getting no where with Afrihost.

Is always the same old crap... run speed tests, share tracerts and "our team are working on the issues" bla bla bla.

I would also love to see a tracert from a client running a business account within the Pretoria area that is performing to its full potential.

Also cancelled. Unfortunetly I have to wait until the end of the month as I requested the cancellation after the 25th of last month :/

Use to love them but their service (Not even talking about the terrible speeds I'm getting) is getting worse.. Whenever I submit support tickets I get hectic "generic" responses. Even after I beg them to read the email and respond accordingly. I even number my requests so that everything is detailed.

Anyway, I will be back should things change for the better.

I have just a business account so here is my gateway: 105.236.170.50 I am located in Honeydew Roodepoort.
My DNS is set to automatically get from ISP. My line is synched to 2 Mbps which is correct.
Speedtest show line performance is around 1.5 Mbps with a 17ms ping time.

Yet...I cannot stream without frustration!

Odd how I am getting a time out on hop 2 and was told this is an exchnage issue, yet telkom hjave done tests and there are no issues. In the morning the speed seems fine, but at 07:00 it goes to crap again. Alos get asked to run tests continually ( I cant tdo tests all day), and then critical care think I am complaining about a toptally different issue, accounts argue that there have been no network issues, seems like one big mess. Too many people not knowing what the next one is doing.

3 Dropped connections already since 5:30am, what did you guys fix in the south? browsing is deadly slow along with youtube videos that just stop loading halfway through, downloads are 1/10th line speed, please fix your network in the south before I cancel, I am patient but this is getting ridiculous now.

Well I did two tests this morning:

On the Ookla Speedtest App for Android using the Randburg Telkom SA (SAIX) server at 6:20 this morning:

Download: 0,31 mbps
Upload: 0,44 mpbs
Ping: 44 seconds

From www.saix.net using my laptop at 6:30 this morning:

Download Speed: 1546 kbps (193.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 428 kbps (53.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 74 ms

Trying Youtube this morning is a pain in the butt!! Look at the below screenshot showing the bandwidth usage. It is pathetic man!!

Trace Route looking better, but can't stream at 480p this morning..

I've heard the new exchanges do this and is not a problem but normal for that particular type of exchange.

So pretty much ignore that, and focus on the ISP.

I almost feel as though I'm being shaped.. I can't stream 360p (or 1500kbps), but if I download a video (or p2p for that fact) I get 400kB/s. So strange?

Sounds like the latency isn't 100% stable, do you have any tests that I can look at?

The 105 IP is definitely ours, if I run a reverse dig on the 196 IP it doesn't resolve to us - are you using our DNS servers?

Any feedback on my problem with critical care?

Very strange results here, do you have a static IP setup on your Business account?

Did you manage to run the tests last night?

Use to love them but their service (Not even talking about the terrible speeds I'm getting) is getting worse.

Oscar .... Dont know who this guy is at AH, but he seems to be the guy who gets things done .... give credit where its due.
Impressed with Oscar

Lets hope he sorts my issue out.

I have a theory here, now bear with me for a bit...

I think that Afrihost is purposefully throttling their top users due to the following:

1. They advertise that their "business" accounts are not throttled, so they can't admit it.
2. They are bleeding money due to their high usage users (that they brag about so openly), so MTN has told them to cut it down.
3. They can't tell their users to cut down, so they are manufacturing fake issues.
4. This gets the high end users to jump ship, and they never have to admit that they caused it on purpose.

The reason I believe this is, because when I dial up with another Afrihost account, I get my full bandwidth, but with my own, I can barely do a speed test. I mean, the speed test fails every now and then.

This is just a sly way for them to get rid of their top users.

Screw you Afrihost, I will complain every time my internet slows down, and you will sort it out every time.

This isn't the case at all, no throttling exists on our network. Period.
No shaping is being applied to Business/ Capped either.

Do you have any results that I can look at?
