The Capped Bundles only really start being the same price as the Business Uncapped Bundles if you start looking at the 200GB+ Capped Bundles, at the sort of usage level, the Business Uncapped accounts do probably become more economical.

The biggest difference between the Capped and Business Uncapped Bundles, is that the Business Uncapped Bundles have access to Static IP addresses, which the Capped accounts do not.

But for the fixed ip you need to use a specific router, or is that no longer the case?

Correct, to make use of the Static IPs, you will need to have an ADSL modem that supports VPN creation using L2TP, and not many modems have this capability.

So the bandwidth is identical (other than the "up to 40mbps")? Why would anyone go for capped then if business has a static IP, too? Just for the multiple concurrent connections?

Multiple concurrent connections is one benefit that many users want to have, as it is not uncommon to use one Capped account across multiple homes or premises.

The biggest reason though that I think users opt for the Capped Bundles, is cost. Business Uncapped Bundles at even 4Mbps can quickly get very expensive.

Okay, thanks :) Was just wondering if there were some special attributes to capped (like a high-priority network or something). Seems that Business Uncapped is a better solution, at least for me.

How so?

At the moment using VPN tunneling with L2TP is one of the few ways we can implement Static IPs on the current Telkom ADSL network.

Becuase when you originally advertised the fixed IP, there was no mention that a specific router had to be used, so we went out and bought the most expensive Netgear router available, and guess what it does not allow this hack for the IP. This router is far more advanced and offers far more than the router that allows for this, and therefore we didnt bother. So I find it pointless. A few people were upset about this when you launched the fixed IP, and also the fact that you charged extra when Axxess at the time did not.

From the get go we did mention that a criteria to have a static IP is that the router needs to support L2TP VPN, we later added a recommendation of a Billion router to the activation page.

That looks pretty horrible. The latency on your line is very bad though. Can you please run a traceroute so we can see where this comes from? I'm not picking up general latency on the network at the moment (or when I checked my reports last night) :(

Since this morning my internet is really slow. Think it is a line problem but here is the stats on a 2Mb line on which I normally get full line speed without issues:

SpeedTest:
Last Result:

That's massive latency to the exchange :(
Does the Telkom guest account show the same response time?

After switching to the guest account and then back the trace route is much better but my speed still slow.

On my 6mb line tonight.

Atleast your page opens. Ive contacted their support no solution. Test using afrihost account and afrihost line tester all great. Soon on my webafrica account I have periods every evening that my internet becomes completely unusable. Switch my account to afrihost, boom back up again.

AH is a good ISP

Is there a throttling and shaping threshold on the business uncapped packages and If so, what is that limit on the 2mbps one?

Absolutely not. You can download to your heart's content and never worry about being throttled, shaped or have to abide by an "Acceptable Use Policy" to keep your speeds up (you can download as many Linux distros via BitTorrent as you'd like ;)) -- just disable "business optimisation".
