It seems to have cleared up now, same type of issues as before during peak times.

Not for me. Had to switch accounts to play a game of Lol. Crystal Web 186 vs Afrihost 280. Really wish they would get their stuff together about this. Seriously thinking of leaving. I play Lol most nights but I have to swop accounts 9/10 times just to play properly.

If its not packet loss its increased latency, if its not increased latency its packet loss.

What we are seeing is short periods of high demand when our shaping rules are not as effective as they could be, but we're seeing massive improvement in the last week in controlling those and making them as short as possible. Once we have our rules completely under control again, we'll see these short bursts of demand completely under control.

Most times packet loss would be a result of increased latency, so the two are linked. If this is happening during peak demand periods, it would definitely be resolved when our traffic management is properly sorted. We've seen some big improvements, and I think we're pretty much close to having this fixed.

Hi,

Decided to update my business bundle from 8MB to 10MB. What I cannot understand is why I have now been sent a pro rata invoice for R225.13, over and above the R1197.00 I am currently paying? I called accounts, and they are not exactly too helpful or friendly.

You should receive a pro-rata invoice for the remainder of the month based on the full price data product. But remember we've just gone into billing so you would probably also receive the full price invoice for the next month (either for a bundle or if you only have data).

If it still doesn't seem right just drop me a PM.

Ok still seems a bit more than expected, should have rather upgraded then on the last day of the month. Will I have to restart my router to get the new speed, my line has always been 10MB, but the account was limited to 8MB by Afrihost.

why do you have the same problems over and over again when other isps are working properly
is it maybe because u are doing too much managing and we have to sit with these problems over and over again

It usually takes max 24 hours to update your profile, but should do so within a few hours usually when the system updates.

All ISP have to manage their networks but I do admit that we're learning more and more about how to do this effectively. We're being given more direct control over how we manage our network so that we can give more to clients, and I think as we've learned we've improved our response to problems and the overall performance and experience our clients get. We should have this issue fixed quickly.

Clientzone shows my account is now 10MB, but does that mean my speed is 10MB, or do I still have to wait 24hours, speed test don't show much as my speed is slow for some reason again. I hope this is not more money wasted.

ClientZone will show the updated product description but the new settings have to update on our Radius server and management systems

Ok, but then surely I should only be charged once the change has taken place? what happens if there are issues, and the speed increase does not happen?

So is there any idea how long this will take? Mind you some people I know have had issues since last year regarding this.

The final changes are being implemented now, the Networking Guys are monitoring everything closely to make sure the network as a whole remains stable for an extended period.

This is seriously annoying, i can't play CS GO without freezes. I mostly notice the packetloss when someone else is using the internet bandwith, but this test was taken when no one else was on.

Those traceroutes look okay.

How is your PC connected to the network?

Would you be able to run that traceroute again whilst there is someone else using the bandwidth as well?

I am connected directly to the router via lan cable. i did this test while running a torrent at almost full speed on my pc:

The packetloss on CS GO is at 0% if no else is online, but when someone else goes on it shoots up to 40-50% and the whole game freezes. It never used to do this before, only started happening sometime this month.

From that trace it looks like there is congestion on your exchange or a fault on the line. So if someone else goes online on your home network, that is going to push overall latency up and cause potential packet loss.

I think until Telkom upgrades your exchange, you may need to consider chucking everyone off the network when you game, or creating multiple SSIDs on your router and then severely restricting other WiFi users so you have maximum performance on the one you game on.

Only Afrihost is bad

There was a spike in demand around 9pm last night which took a few minutes for our traffic management system to bring under control and I see this happened again just before 10pm. Otherwise, from my reports, latency should have been consistent in the South for the evening, these bursts should have lasted only 5-10 minutes at maximum :(
