Your latency should be holding steady at the moment... Can I send you a PM with a test account quickly?

Hi Afrihost, trying to Skype(no video) a business contact also on Afrihost also in pretoria east, and it is THE WORST skype call I have ever had. It keeps on dropping, freezing, loosing bits of the conversation. Neither of us are downloading anything, our speedtests say 3.5Mbps

:(

That's not cool...

Are you seeing any latency on your connection? Any packet loss?

Hi Everyone,

I have developed a new tool to do a constant ping test and upload the results (just the ping result number) to a central server, so that all Afrihost users will be able to see when the network is experiencing ping-issues :) Hopefully it will help the reps out when they need to know if the network is having issues again. You can view the source code HERE to make sure that nothing personal is uploaded if you'd like.

I need your help to get it going. Could you please download the following java file, and let it run in the background:
http://releases.zertop.com/latencyreport/Releases/LatencyReportV1.0.0.jar

You can view the collected results here:
http://releases.zertop.com/latencyreport/

Thanks!
Z

Awesome! Such a cool tool! Thanks for sharing!

Afternoon MyBB Guys!

We've been in discussion with the Higher-Ups, and we've now updated our Noticeboard with some details on the current network status and the upgrades that we have planned.

At the moment I can't go into anymore detail, but you're welcome to post any questions that you may have and I'll do my best to answer. :)

Thank you.

Strangely, my live streaming (Rdio) appears to work reasonably even when latency >200ms, but browsing is slow on certain sites; and every now and again my Microsoft connection to Office365 grinds to a halt. Seems like the protocol optimisation is leaning too far on the side of live services at the expense of other important protocols (?)

Real-time services will always receive the highest priority, so you shouldn't see any degradation of services on browsing and Office365, especially if your streaming is running decently.

Could be DNS-related... Which DNS Servers is your modem defaulting to?

Yep. Internet is crap today.

Can't stream 720p on Youtube.

Thanks for reply. My router is set to receive DNS settings automatically from the ISP. Should I change this?

Afrihost claims Business Uncapped has no prioritisation.

Please explain?!
