That's pretty odd. As far as our tests showed Business accounts were performing well, but it depends on how busy the network was at that time - with the demand levels we're currently at.

I do believe our new capacity is going to be available soon, and then we can properly troubleshoot these issues.

But drop me a PM anyway so we can try to get to the bottom of this :(

For some reason my line keeps on dropping tonight. Router keeps on disconnecting and reconnecting. I have the 4mb line and router is syncing at 8mb.

If Telkom are upgrading your exchange, they might set you to a higher sync rate if your line can now go higher (maybe moved your from a GDMT card to an ADSL2+) - that's just a wild guess though :)

Yep, I have the settings on auto. Why?

Im on the business account , and was working fine from Centurion.

Normally slow youtube i've found to be DNS server issues

Try setting your PC directly to the Afrihost DNS server

Primary 196.7.7.7
Sec 196.7.8.9

I tried this. No real improvement. The total download speed is never above 2Mbps, except when I'm running a speedtest. My youtube test again hovered between 200 and 400 kbps. This is on 4Mbps uncapped.

Sounds like you're not getting enough throughput, but that should show on local as well.

Please drop me a PM so I can check some test results with you :(

Does this mean that one would likely have a less than optimal net connection if using the UnoTelly DNS servers (Primary = Cape Town; Secondary = Germany in my case)?

I would think its possible at times, I've noticed sometimes other DNS servers don't point to a local google cache or maybe to another google cache on another local ISP network.

I would say rather use Afrihost DNS on your PC and use the unotelly on your media-pc or media player.

It may not provide the best experience, our DNS is setup to provide the best overall experience. It includes caching directs and other fancy network things that make the net a little bit faster :)

Alright, thanks, I'll try and do the necessary network config so it works this way. I use Rokus, which unfortunately don't allow you to change the DNS server settings in them directly, so I probably either need to change the DNS settings in my two remote access point routers (that the two entertainment areas in the house are connected to), or see if following the guide in this thread will be a workable alternative...

As an aside, I'm not looking forward to it since I'm not exactly a networking guru, but the daily connection drops and required remote AP reboots to re-establish connection probably mean I need to flash those two TL-WR842ND routers to OpenWRT as well to match the OpenWRT firmware I flashed into the TL-MR3420 router that feeds them. (I've come across a point that apparently STP needs to be enabled on all devices in a WDS setup, a setting I can't find in the stock TL-WR842ND firmware config interface). May as well try and sort the whole mess out all at once!

Yup, as per my other post, it looks like it will be worth my while to make some time to try and figure out how I need to sort out my home network to work more optimally and with more stability!

You never realise how tricky and vital DNS is - until a DNS server crashes. And then nothing works - not even browsing or mails. DNS has it's fingers in all the pies, and getting it just right is really important. That's why we generally recommend that you use our DNS - so we can do all the hard work for you :)

Thanks for the heads up about the importance of the right DNS settings guys - guess I need to finalise the necessary background research to figure out how to set up my network as needed to work for my needs ;)

Ok what's going on here Afrihost? I am struggling to even stream 240p youtube on my 4Mb line... My router bandwidth logs reports usage is only at 800kbps, so it's not like I am throttling myself...

Network is running pretty smooth today, and we're seeing pretty good throughput on our tests.

Any thing strange on your traceroutes?

Please Afriman/Afriguy. I upgraded to a business uncapped 1 meg account 2 days ago. I get home from work now and my torrents are going at 50-60kb/s . plenty seeders.

What is going on here ?

Are you guys shaping Youtube on these accounts all of a sudden? Speedtest and tracert results show normal figures, but since I got back 2 days ago, Youtube is unusable in the day.

Please advise.
