I'm pretty sure we're not doing any upgrades right now. I can't say why you're experiencing this - best drop me a PM so I can take a look. Sound like it may be a DNS issue - maybe a Telkom outage at the BRAS :(

It's definitely not DNS because I saved a list of pingable IP addresses specially for occasions like this.

I'm thinking of going business until Durban IPC gets upgraded a few questions though.

1) Is there actually a noticeable difference in realtime ?
2) Can one "Upgrade" to business or do you have to wait till the end of the month.

Hi KinsZA, I'm in Durban and I'm not experiencing any issues??? You can upgrade at anytime, you just pay a pro-rata.

What is going on here. I can't stream a Youtube video at 360p without constant buffering!! It is really annoying as I could stream Youtube at 480p on my old 2mb line..!!

Youtube is **** overall when it comes to streaming.

Yes, but it's now worse than ever, because of something broken on the network.

Now, tonight both my speed and ping is bad:

Now, this is likely something on the exchange. But I have sent support a mail, no reply on it in 2.5 hours, and the site says 'fully operational', which it clearly isn't.

Can I perhaps get a follow-up what the next step will be please? Tell me who I must PM what.

Thanks

I have normal uncapped at the moment and even on realtime unshaped it has been rather slow HTTP downloads (Especially say hotfile), can anyone confirm business uncapped'ds speeds as I am interested in giving it a try because of this.

Just switched

Hi KinsZA,

I've just switched over from the 2MBS Gold Openweb uncapped, I am in the Outerwest area of Durban.

My speeds are approximately 80-50% as of this moment.

Here are my results from the mybroadbands speed test

Durban has been running pretty awesome all weekend with very little shaping. I have noticed several KZN exchanges having problems in the last week or so and over the weekend, so there may be a throughput issue on your line or exchange.

Have you run any traceroutes?

Looks like there is really bad congestion here. Our network is performing pretty well at the moment and we're seeing pretty good throughput and latency.

Do we manage your line? Maybe I can check with Telkom if your exchange is congested and possibly due for an upgrade :(

We're still investigating this, from comments in this thread. From what we can see the network was running well, but we've made some changes to hopefully improve general throughput on Business and Capped accounts.

Please test as soon as you can and let me know if you're still having issues :(

We're not showing throughput issues in Durban right now - so I'm pretty surprised to see this. We've had pretty much no shaping for ages in Durban - but even if we did it should not affect real time services like speedtest.

What kind of troubleshooting have you done on this? Particularly interested in that high latency - which is horrible. Any traceroutes?
