That is odd. I did check the clientzone and the setting was reporting the following:

100% REALTIME
SPEED

Account Overview
Account Status: Account Active
Shaping Policy: No Shaping Applied
Protocol Prioritisation: Deactivated

Are you sure it was activated?

You have to activate it

We haven't enabled it for anyone, each client needs to activate it if they'd like to use it.

In your reply you said that the reason NNTP is not working and I am having issues could be due to it being enabled and you disabled it I should give it 20 minutes an try again. Now you say it was never enabled?

QUOTE: "Yeah, looks like that setting was on. Have changed it back - give it about 15-20 minutes"

Was it on or not? I never enabled it...

I'll test my line tonight but I have a feeling I'm gonna find it as I left it this morning. Not working.
Was telling me Protocol Prioritisation was enabled a shortcut not to investigate my issues for real?
I know it was showing disabled for a fact cause I even showed my colleagues the feature.

Could have been bug where it was enabled, but not showing as such.

Is Youtube prioritised in any way in terms of streaming? I was watching videos last night, and all the sites I was watching were buffering like mad, except Youtube.

Then I compared the activity in Resource Monitor, and Youtube was running at basically 1Mbps throughout, while all others were ducking and diving between 0.3 and 0.6 Mbps constantly, almost like sawtooths, if you know what I mean. It was really impossible to watch anything.

So, is there any kind of shaping on streaming specifically on Afrihost Business Uncapped?

The difference is that a lot of YouTube content is mirrored locally as apposed to streaming something from the other side of the globe.

Any possibilities of escalating this ticket and putting some pressure on Telskum and AH ? almost on day 25 now

Kudos to AfriGuy for flipping the switch on my Business DSL. After he disabled "Business Optional Shaping" my line is running like a dream. I can only hope that it will stick. Will keep a close eye on it.

I'm on the business account, and its freaking awesome... i have nothing more to say.

Not at all. The Business accounts are completely unshaped, so it doesn't run through any QoS on our side at all.

OK so my international streaming is a bit better today, but still not perfect.

See, this is how it looks when on international streaming in resource monitor:

Where the deepest troughs are, that is where the stream freezes and buffers. Traceroute is very normal, as is speedtest. I dunno where to look anymore.

Are you seeing the drops on streaming across the board or only on certain sites?

Yip, in Newlands on a capped account. Connection just dropped and now it's not authenticating for me either...

Ok so I took the plung yesterday and went with a 4mb business dsl account. Everything was working great in the beginning but it seems like p2p downloads have been deteriorating. I was happily pushing 400kb/s and now i'm sitting at around 10kb/s. What going on? I thought p2p wasnt shaped at all?

Oh and are my pings normal? How do people get low pings?

Oh, I live down the street from my exchange if that helps.

I am wondering if this wasn't applied to my line as well. Can the Afridudes just confirm that this isn't on at the moment? Thank you

Looks like there were Telkom problems in the area - from other client reports. Most have reported that they came back up around 2am this morning :(
