Something just happened in Claremont, connection dropped and I am not authenticating

Definitely not a network issue - we're not seeing any drop-offs on our monitoring from last night or this morning :(

I am wondering if this wasn't applied to my line as well. Can the Afridudes just confirm that this isn't on at the moment? Thank you

You'll need to drop me a PM so I can check out your account. You should also see the setting as active in ClientZone :)

I was about to come on here and throw my toys. P2P traffic has been terrible for the last few days.
I just check my clientzone and there is no protocol shaping enabled.
Remote desktop'ed into my PC and the line seems to be running at 90% of line speed.

Ok so I took the plung yesterday and went with a 4mb business dsl account. Everything was working great in the beginning but it seems like p2p downloads have been deteriorating. I was happily pushing 400kb/s and now i'm sitting at around 10kb/s. What going on? I thought p2p wasnt shaped at all?

Oh and are my pings normal? How do people get low pings?

Oh, I live down the street from my exchange if that helps.

P2P is definitely not shaped unless you have the Priority setting on in your ClientZone. Can you check if it is - or drop me a PM so I can check on your username?

Sorry to hear this. But even at 90% you should be getting good throughput on torrents.

Drop me a PM so I can check what policy you're on :(

Can someone explain to me what shaping means if it is on say 70% and PSP is on 30%?

Thanks

It's the percentage of your line available to use for these services. So if you see 30% displayed under P2P, it'll mean you have 30% of your line speed available for P2P services. Noted that this only affects our Home Uncapped accounts. The Business Uncapped accounts are unshaped.

I'm having serious connectivity issues atm. Connection is basically dead. I've rebooted my router about six times to no avail.

Drop me a PM with your line number and I'll try and see where the issues are coming in.

Never mind. Turns it out was just my PC. Restarted it and everything seems fine. That's just one more problem I've had since updating to Windows 8.1... Biggest mistake ever. Sorry for the false alarm.

My problem is that the prices on Telkom's side has changed for the ADSL Line but not on Afrihost's.

I am on 1Mbps Business Bundle. Now I am happy, more than happy, to pay the extra bit for the 2Mbps Uncapped DATA portion of the bundle but it kills me that I cannot request that my ADSL line gets bumped to 2Mbps but with the new pricing. The AH rep that just helped me on the phone told me that only once Telkom has finished with the entire network upgrade, only then will AH adjust the ADSL line pricing. This makes no sense at all.

AfriGuy I posted this in another thread, just want to get your input on it.

No worries, glad it wasn't anything more serious!

Sorry I missed this.
We can't be sure as to when we'll have this finalised or announced - from our end, we're still reviewing a few finer details.

Surely the changes in pricing have come from Telkom already. Just thought those immediate savings would be available for the customer straight away.

Just to add to this - we also have to work within the framework of Telkom's system. If we bump you up to 2Mbps it will be the equivalent of Faster DSL (not Fastest) so you'll actually be bumped up to 4mbps and pay more now and then less later.

It's makes more sense to let Telkom do their thing. Once Telkom cut over to new prices though, we can only process upgrades to the new products DSL1/2/3, etc. So we won't be able to move you becuase in Telkom's eye's you already be on DSL1 - even though that's actually a 2Mbps product and you're currently on 1Mbps.

Unfortunately - with all the confusion, it's a safer bet to wait until Telkom sorts your line out as they get to your area.

Remember there's only a saving if you downgrade. But we can't sure if you dowgrade whether you'll get the old or the new product. It's really best to wait - we went through this last year and many clients ended up getting the wrong packages because of the confusion :(

Thanks AfriMan, p2p downloads are flying again. Turned out to be the priority setting being on. I reckon that should be off by default to avoid people complaining because I am quite sure I didnt turn it on.

Hi AfriMan or AfriGuy.

I am considering moving from my OpenWeb 10Mbps to your 10meg Business uncapped Platinum solution @ R997pm.
On OpenWeb my daytime speeds have been a disaster lately, and torrents after hours have also not been that great. However Gaming has been a pleasure with good latencies.

Moving to Afrihost business account will be increase my internet account by R400 a month, what I need to know, will this account work 24/7 with gaming, and afterhours torrents or streaming.
I recall earlier this year uncapped home accounts were given priority after hours and business accounts were less Prioritised.

I’m just a bit nervous to make the move and my overall experience ends up worse.
Also I will be paying for OpenWeb (one month’s notice) and Afrihost’s account for December totalling almost R1500 and if it’s a fail I’ve wasted a lot of $$ (excl line and ADSL rental)

Basically I am looking for an account where I have freedom to do what I need that is based on:

Office Hours 8am – 5pm
Web Browsing
You Tube (Media) Streaming
VPN access to I.S hosted Servers and Remote Desktop
Business FTP (to I.S hosted environemnts)

After Hours:
Web Browsing
Media Streaming (You Tube, Live Leak, Vivo Etc)
VPN access to I.S hosted servers and Remote Desktop
Gaming (Steam, WoW, Origin ETC and many more)
P2P Torrents
FTP (I.S hosted Environments)
Http and HTTPS downloads

From what I have read the business uncapped has changed and most users are extremely happy
My highest usage is around 400Gig a month, I average around 150-200 Gig.
I don’t want to be shaped during office hours as per my needs above, but do want the requirements mentioned in After Hours.
Will the business uncapped Platinum suffice my needs ?

I am in Cape Town.
You may PM me if needed.

Kind Regards
Wayne.
