Hehe no chance, most of them are at least 80, and I don't really know any of them :p

Will struggle this out with Telkom and Afrihost...

Haha. Anyway - try contacting your local Telkom branch instead of the national support line, it gets things done faster :D Just tell them that you are having line issues and you would like them to check it out for you :)

Contacted them via Twitter - much faster than any other avenues they have ;)

Supposedly running 5+Mb according to Speedtest, yet Youtube vids are buffering like mad at 360p....

I am getting gatvol of Hellscum's inability to fix a damned line. This has been going on for far too long now. Seriously? 8+ months and still no resolution in sight due to their useless techs who close faults and mark them as resolved, yet they are just too f-ing lazy to actually fix stuff and it is a case of Afrihost will bear the brunt of my complaints until either this issue is sorted, or I cancel my account, my Mifi, and my web hosting package.

After I restart the router I get this.
Is it because it resyncs or something?

First one looked to be exchange - but it could be something with your router due to the fact that it rectified itself after a reboot, which isn't really normal. It looks fine for now, but if it pops up again - take note of the time and see if it's during peak times - which points to congestion

Telkom tech was doing something in the manhole outside our property again, but now when the landline phone rings, the ADSL line disconnects....

I should have locked him in that manhole. Pity he has left.

So, I got my Zyxel router, popped in the details for my static ip, connected and boom, the ip the server is assigning me is not my static ip.

Latency goes from 4ms for the second hop to 40ms, had two afrihost support people remote into the router and its still not working :(

@AfriEveryone could you assist?

Are you sure it's not working - static ip's are pretty much like connecting to a vpn - which means your second hop will be the vpn server (I think, could be wrong). Go to whatismyip.com and check that it isn't your static IP :)

The IP that is assigned by the VPN, is not the IP address that is displayed in client zone :p, and 40ms is very high

This is now getting heavily annoying, why on a 9/10mbps link is international streaming so slow ( Netflix, amazon etc ) that it dies? Everything else is fine.

I unfortunately ended up cancelling my 10 mb business uncapped account. When I first got it it was absolutely amazing. With all the troubles I have been having, Afrihost are hellbent on trying to convince me the account is fine, it must be my line or exchange. But if I use a capped account, I fly at full speed.

Afrihost's support has become quite bad over the last couple of months :(

On a different note, has anyone been able to get the static ip l2tp working with a ZyXEL router?

So after telling Afrihost that the IP the VPN is wrong, 3 days of phone calls, countless swearing, Joseph M, understand and he is having it fixed by the dev team.

Afrihost you are becoming the "worse" ISP in africa!

EDIT: And the dev team changes the IP address in client zone to match the one that was assigned to me by the VPN

I've had countless complaints about streaming, from Apple TV to Hulu and Netflix. I just get told they don't support it as the services aren't available in South Africa.
