@Afriguy
Why is afrihost not forthcoming with a to the point, truthful answer, myself and I'm sure many other people on here get the impression that you trying to hide the facts!
From the tests that we've run in the South (again, with the exception of the heavier shaping for standard Uncapped clients) we aren't seeing any signs of degraded services.
I call BS, It is clear from simply reading this forum that either you have not done proper testing or are sticking your heads in the sand. It is beyond a reasonable doubt that performance has deteriorated rapidly over the last few weeks. This is fact !
Nearly everything has slowed down, VPN's, streaming services, torrents, nzb's, you name it, just read the forum! People can't stream DSTV or even make a skype call. So you wrong there, performance has taken a MASSIVE hit. Yet changing to a Webafrica account makes everything work 100%, any explanation ?
Obvious network issues barred, there are a few things that can cause high latency on an IPC network.
When a certain amount of throughput is reached users start contending for throughput - when this happens the spikes in latency are almost immediate.
It's ethernet, the spikes in latency are a result of a saturated link, the certain amount of throughput you speak above in bold is actually the max capacity on your IPC link, you keep latency in check by simply slowing everyone down (Shape) so that the link is no longer at the point of saturation, this stabilizes latency. I get this, but what you keep on saying is that you don't shape business accounts...I get this also...but tada...you might as well be, why because ...
YOUR CONTENTION RATIO HAS INCREASED BECAUSE YOU HAVE INSUFFICIENT CAPACITY
Now if I have a 4Mbps account and I have been shaped to say 2Mbps (I know u don't shape business accounts) then what is the difference between that and me only getting 2Mbps because of contention! You might as well shape me.
So I only see two ways out for you.
Own up and admit you lacking IPC capacity hence the higher contention, in the process saving face (temporary issue) and hopefully restore some confidence that the issue will be resolved
OR
continune on your line of there is nothing wrong, risking masses leaving from other ISP's because they think this is the new norm.
So afriguy is this the new norm ? I guess it must be because according to Afrihost everything is just dandy!
