That's how I've been led to understand it. I have seen some very detailed documentation on this though - I just can't remember where. Will have to see if I can dig it out again somewhere.

If you could, I would love to see it! I've never fully understood this whole system! It'll be great to figure out more about it :)

Im good right now thanks :D

Im not just helping Afrihost people, but also other users too!

Yeah, but you're defending AH when it was proven weeks ago already they are having capacity issues.

I'm not defending them, and yes they do have Capacity issues. I'm just trying to see if we can help someone out who might have a line fault :/ It doesn't hurt to try. I've tried the account he has and it runs perfectly on my side? So thats why I'm just trying to help :)

That's a layer II service, again, as far as I understand. Won't show on a layer III traceroute. HOP2 (the ISP's gateway IP) sits on the IPC, and it is managed by Telkom. Again, as far as I am aware.

That's correct :)

Okay cool. I see what you mean. To be honest, there is no point in me trying to guess haha - I'm no expert :P Hopefully someone else can shed some light :)

Edit: See! You were right! :P AfriGuy even proved it! But then Hop2 is still on Telkom's network right?

It sits on the IPC, for routing purposes - but is controlled by Telkom as opposed to us.
Also, it won't always be the 2nd hop, depending on the home setup :)

We don't do any throttling on any of our accounts :)
PM me your account info and I'll see where the slow downs are coming in though.

Hey AfriGuy,

Still no feedback on this from the 7th.

Currently I am clearly not getting 10M that is being paid for...

This is a normal thing... had same issues so much that i downgraded to 8mb line and getting 7mbps every now and then... but running at 3mbps most of time... If you have a look at mybroadbands post you will see that most of the 10mbps lines only get in the region of 6-7mbps?? I might be wrong but thats what i remember.

ASKING AFRIGUY ...

Is your Cape Town IPC congested ? Yes/No

No, it's not congested - but we're needing to implement heavier shaping in the South region to avoid high latency.
