But you (afrihost) CAN issue credits, CAN stop billing, and CAN save what little bit of your reputation you have left. I guess your directors are like your support desk - it takes at least a month for them to even NOTICE that there's a ticket, nevermind respond to it...

Or you CAN vote with your feet and cancel.Perhaps time to put your big boy panties on....

It's people like you that allow companies to rip people off. If we just move they will not solve their issues and it will happen again and again.

It's easy to run to another ISP, but it does not solve the problem that I paid for March and only received 1/4 of my line speed

Really?
To say that I'm no longer interested in using your product because it's crap is the strongest possible statement I can make.Nothing hurts more than the bottom line.

Um no. That's not how it works.

Companies usually on make changes once it hurts them financially. Complaining on a forum means nothing as long as your debit order is going off.

Cancelling is the only way to make them take notice.

And the R1500 odd (month and a half) that I am out of pocket???

I suppose Afriman takes that to take that brilliant support desk out for a few beers on Friday afternoon, right?

My static ip is tied to around 30 servers, and firewalls, it does not make sense to cancel and have to get clients to update ****

If at any time in the first 60 days you feel that we did not live up to our promises and you choose to leave us, we'll pay you back DOUBLE what you've paid us on that package, up to the point that you cancel - no strings and no questions!

So, how does that benefit a long time supporter / customer, that is being fscked over right now?

It's not that it's not a priority for us or our management - so that shouldn't be the focus. What is important is that we are paying significant costs already, because we're basically seeing more data transfer overall, and have to continue to pay our upstream providers for the traffic. So I think it's also important to remember that we're going to be extending that by adding more capacity even though we won't be increasing our fees, bring us even closer than we currently are to our cost on bandwidth.

It would be a different story if we were bringing more clients onto the network, but the reality is that the growth in demand far exceeds the growth in DSL client base - so it's mostly the same number of clients but demanding more bandwidth the than before.

Having said all of this though, we always make up for poor experiences with our clients. Whether it's mystery bonuses or discounts or just free run on the network, we always do what we feel is best for our clients. Remember that each mystery bonus or discount run costs us several million rand a go, so it's not an insignificant gesture to our clients.

Doesn't change the validity of my point, nor shows the validity of yours.

I personally don't agree with these kind of strategies. Companies get better and build more trust with clients through engagement. Trying to hurt companies and using social media to try to destroy a brand is a knee-jer reaction that never builds long term value for both the client and the company. It's also about the company that you're dealing with and how you feel about their intentions and their actions.

I honestly think that if you, as an Afrihost client, feel that we are actively trying to rip you off and steal your money, then we are either not communicating our values to you clearly enough, or we don't share the same values. Either way, there's a disconnect there that may manifest more clearly in times of crisis or displeasure, but there is a problem which needs to be addressed.

But there are capacity issues, and you still gave away free bandwidth, so this must have impacted on the network, and made issues worse??

So can I have a free run, also giving mystery bonus does not do anything for me, will my uncapped be double uncapped?

I think turning on each other is not the solution here, and no amount of fighting or insults will create more IPC capacity. It's only through constructive engagement that we can figure out where we stand and what the way forward is. I guess it is sometimes important to vent, but let's not sour the conversation.

So it *IS* a priorty, but it *isn't* the focus? Even though, as you yourself said, you're basically sitting twiddling your thumbs waiting for telkom?

Your costs are fixed. You pay a FIXED price per mbps of traffic - both on your IPC, as well as on your transit. If you have a 10mbps line, whether it's used to 5% of capacity, or 110% of capacity, your monthly rental is *fixed*. I fail to see how you can now come screaming foul because of extra traffic on the network, which ironically, YOU GAVE AWAY and said HAS NO IMPACT WHAT SO EVER?!?!?! Again, the tables turn...

If you do pay your provider (MTN) per MB of traffic used, then firstly your business model is flawed, and secondly, how can giving away free bandwidth *NOT* have an impact on anything, as you said numerious times???

It would be a different story if we were bringing more clients onto the network, but the reality is that the growth in demand far exceeds the growth in DSL client base - so it's mostly the same number of clients but demanding more bandwidth the than before.

Especially when you give away free bandwidth yes. And even more so, at a time like this...

Yes, but not having IPC capacity is insignificant? So insignificant that it took WEEKS before you even admitted it, and so insignificant that it's UNTILL TODAY still, not significant enough to have a network notice posted on your web site?

You're setting double standards, you're talking in double standards, and again, you're pretty much just grasping at straws avoiding the *real* issues here...

You still want to be a customer of a company you reckon is f...... you over??!

If Afrihost is prepared to refund me the monies paid to them, I will show them the finger and move, right now... I am NOT prepared to pay R997 per month for a service, only to be forced to accept *this* type of service levels and then to leave without any form of compensation...

I've commented on this a few times. The additional bandwidth we gave away did not influence the overall rate of consumption. The upsurge in demand began mostly as Telkom starting upgrading lines at the end of last year.

I think you're coming a little late to the party here, we've been very open about this from the beginning - starting last year when we had a partial upgrade - that's how most people know that there was an upgrade pending. We've never denied or attempted to hide this.

I understand that you are frustrated but I think your approach is not going to get us to a solution. I feel like you're trying to find something in what I say that shows that I am lying, or not being forthcoming with information - and that is not the case. We don't pay a fixed monthly cost. There is a complex price structure based on usage on the network and fixed costs of capacity. So when we add IPC, we do pay more.

What it comes down to is that you don't trust us and I think it's coming through very clearly here. I'm sorry you feel that way. I hope whichever way you decide to go from here that you form a better relationship with your service provider (if that's going to be another ISP as per your post)
