Will start now to prove once again it is Afrihost. Who wants to bet the reply will be "Nope, nothing wrong on our network, please rerun your tests"

YIP... it's never on their side.... it's always your line/connection :(

...or better still.... "we aren't seeing any issues from our side"

PS. Still havent had any responses to any of my requests/queries. E I S H ... after 4 months of issues in the Cape, with countless promises of extra capacity and improvements.... my other Home Uncapped is STILL shaped to hell (12.5% and 6.5%) for 20 hours of the day, EVERY DAY :(
Add to that the ever fluctuating speeds of my so-called "premium" uncapped unshaped Business account, and I have to say.... " I AM SO TIRED OF FIGHTING"... maybe I'm wrong, but I shouldnt have to worry at all about my ADSL... it should just work, as advertised!

There are continual issues with watching any videos on Supersport and dsvtv, issues keep on being denied, but you cannot watch anything from these sites unless you are happy with continual streaming. TwitchTv also barely works. You switch to another ISP, even Telkom, and it works 100%. This has been posted a few times on these forums, never to be resolved.

Supersport and Twitch have been reported, but we've never been able to recreate these issues on our side. Also, we have similar reports from other clients that these services work well for them. So the question is whether it's a network wide issue, or based on individual circumstances. I think it makes sense that if at least one client can get good service streaming from these sources, that it can't be a network or routing issue, because the no-one would ever be able to get good service.

We need to continue troubleshooting and looking for commonalities to find the possible causes, like DNS or router settings, etc. Otherwise I honestly believe we're looking in the wrong place.

Come to my house and I will show you how bad it is....
Latency is anywhere between 5ms and 20ms, so nothing wrong with that.

Youtube quality settings revert to either 144p or 240p. If I set it to 360p, 480p, 720p or 1080p, every single vid buffers like mad.
Been like this for over two weeks and the usual "there is nothing wrong" answers are getting very old now.

And any other online streaming vids also take ages to buffer, even with nothing downloading in the background and only my PC on the network. 6Mb ADSL line should have no issues at all with streaming a 720p Youtube vid, right?

If latency is solid, the issue can only be throughput. We'll need to measure if the throughput is not consistent or if it's being limited somehow. What I can say is that we've been shaping Uncapped accounts (not Business) pretty hard during business hours to ensure that Capped and Business throughput is at premium, which we are seeing in our testing. So from my side I expect that latency and throughput on Business should be excellent, especially for locally cached content like YouTube.

2nd hop is 80ms, and im downloading @ 250kB/s on a 10mb line.. FML
I'm blaming the exchange, in my case.

Sounds like congestion. Could you post a full trace (or the Network Test App output) so we can be sure?

We try to give our opinions based on the information provided. Without full testing, it is sometimes a shot in the dark, I admit. Our intention is not to deny your experience and say "What you think is happening is actually not happening". We try to figure out what could be happening and also compare this to general reports coming in from clients (or lack thereof) and our own testing and monitoring on the network.

Yup. Was using jDownloader with 4 connections downloading, which normally maxes out the line. Even NZBs with 20 connections were peaking at that speed when I tried after posting here, so it did seem like shaping.

I've cancelled my 10Mb business account, will sign up with a business at another ISP since I really got annoyed that Hulu streamin just doesn't work on these accounts (but they do on the 1Gb free account).

If that ever gets fixed I'll consider moving back, but for now good streaming is more important than a pretty clientzone.

My Hulu stream is just as bad with Afrihost, Please let us know which ISP and account you use afterwards that can stream hulu properly.

Most people on the forum that leave Afrihost coz of the streaming issues land up on Web Africa or VOX.

Both give brilliant streaming performance. You can actually check my sig regarding the Twitch link as usually the Hulu and Twitch streaming problems go together.

I travel between Joburg and Cape Town regularly. Supersport streaming mostly works in Joburg - always completely unusable in Cape Town, using the same account, both with 4mbps lines.

That's pretty interesting. However North has had more available bandwidth and got an IPC upgrade before the South recently, so it may have been recent contention. When was the last test you performed?

What a total load of bull****.

So if 1 user is having an acceptable experience - it is not the network? You are completely loopy.

Everytime you have been provided proof of packet loss within MTN's network, you deny deny deny.... and wait for the problem to go away.

I am disgusted at how blatantly dishonest Afrihost has become.

I am streaming YouTube at 720p on a 4Mbps Uncapped Afrihost Business Uncapped account. Have not buffered once.

My line was perfect until just over 2 weeks ago.
I could have a download running in the background AND watch a Youtube vid at 720 or 1080p at the same time.
Now I have to stop all downloads and wait for the vid to buffer for at least 10 minutes before watching.

But not to worry, there are no faults anywhere in the Matrix. It is all just our imagination causing ripples in the space-time continuum known as AH ADSL Post MTN......

Same issues in Cape Town... even after the IPC upgrade.... in fact, I think it is now worse :(
Today international has been none existent on BOTH 10MB Uncapped accounts I have (Business and Home).
ALL other ISP accounts work perfectly.... even the shaped ones run at full speed.

Gonna do some tests now.....
