Well, Google should ideally route locally. For example, this is my traceroute to Google right now (I'm at the office now though, at on MWeb Business here, but the principle still applies):

Not good speeds, cant even get my Windows 8.1 updates installed. Steam cant even download the Batman Origins Preload, 20 days to download is the estimate. Before today things were flying!!.

Not always. Rather trace to google.co.za, if you want to be sure that it resolves locally.

Things are already settling down, though demand is still high. North region is the hardest hit - but we're seeing high demand than normal across all three regions, so it's definitely a trend in demand at the moment :(

Thanks Afriman, I am sure it is frustrating for everyone. You dealing with all the complaints and us getting crap speeds. Please keep us posted. What I do find interesting is that afrihost.com does not mention anything about the problem. Please post some notices there, thats where I usually check first.
 
Upgraded my business account this morning.... wow.... those speeds.... I'm getting whiplash here :D

The website belongs to our management, so they have to make a call on whether it's of more benefit to clients to see a notice, or whether it will panic clients to the extent that it leads to a higher call volumes - which will further inhibit our ability to help the most clients that we can. I wouldn't want to make that call - but just remember that you can always check in with me at any time :)
