Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

Speedtest.net results and real world throughput is not correlating for me! Actual performance is significantly better than the speedtest.net results suggest.

Not that way with me sadly. Tried an http download this morning and it doesn't go above 100 (usually hits 500kb/s easily on my 4mb account + 10mb line) and streaming is another story :(

Afrihost maintains there are no issues on their side yet there are now people complaining daily about latency and throughput.

+1 here on that, Afrihost is still my favourite ISP, but this is the kind of behavior you would expect from the other isp's :P
if people are complaining daily for the last month or 2 something is up :)

A better reflection of line speed.

Pulling a file via Rapidgator premium account on a 10mb account. Also a remote session via Splashtop hence the upload traffic. That figure should be closer to 90KB/s but not bad. The average incoming is not bad but should be closer to 800KB/s.

For me the problem is their business partner. Afrihost business ethos has always been beyond reproach IMHO but MTN on the other hand....???

By contrast, Cybersmart 10mb uncapped account @R895 per month including ADSL line rental, file download via Rapidgator premium account....

And an hour in still going strong!!!

Something is up, and we're working as hard as we can to have it fixed. Our Management team are constantly working on ways to improve, we know we've let down a lot of clients :(

One sort of expects limited performance from the vanilla uncapped offering but the premium priced business uncapped accounts need to perform as such... I'm confident that they will though...

I completely agree with you here! Our Business products are definitely top notch, and we need to keep them that way :)

Broad statements that "we working on it" or "constantly working on ways to improve" and empty emoticons doesn't cut it any more.

What specifically are you doing to fix the issues your clients are experiencing? Something in the form of:

In region X (Southern, Northen, etc.) we are planning to implement Z plan and implementation date is expected to be YY date. This plan will alleviate the following issues..

Also a reply form you on my post about the increase on the number of posts and the change in tone of this forum would be appreciated.

I'd like nothing more than to give you guys some timelines, I'm afraid I can't. I want to commit to dates that our Management team are proposing, but again would prefer not to as it may result in empty promises.

I'll get to your other post in a bit, sorry.

This thread had 56 pages or 828 posts when the Afrihost network issues started (19 September in my books). Since then there has been 52 pages or 782 posts. That's 828 posts (52%) in 6 months and 782 posts (48%) in 1 month and 5 days.

When there were no issues, this thread was quite for days and you would just sometimes see someone posting how great their experience has been. The tone and frequency (22 posts per day) of posts have changed completely in the past 35 days.

Afrihost maintains there are no issues on their side yet there are now people complaining daily about latency and throughput.

I have raved about Afrihost to my friends and family since joining them and actually said they are the benchmark for ISP's but since mid-September my opinion has changed dramatically.

I still have a small hope that sanity will return to the Afrihost fold. However when Telkom make their proposed changes in November I will most certainly re-evaluate my options. I can only see the Telkom bandwidth upgrades will make things worse from a user perspective.

Sorry I missed this initially.
While I definitely understand agree that this is frustrating, I can promise you that things are being looked into. I mentioned earlier, I honestly want to post up a whole stack of proposed dates here but these may change. I don't want to get everyones hopes up, only to see a delay there :(

I don't think we ever dismissed that we didn't have any issues, I think it's clear to everyone (including ourselves) that we could be delivering a better experience. We know that we've dropped the ball here and we want to make up for that by coming back on nothing short of level awesome.

Thanks for the response. I appreciate that you took the time.

I'm only reading general statements without any commitments. Perhaps it's a stretch to ask for a commitment on a date but what is Afrihost specifically doing in the respective regions to address the issues? I think we all would appreciate some more detail around the general statements (which are meaningless to me).

And I would like nothing more than to commit to a date :( I'm afraid I can't.
Let me chat to AfriMan and the team to see what insights, if any, we can bring to the table. What I can say, is that we're working full steam ahead on the latency issues which have mostly been affecting the Northern region.

No dates or commitments are needed. I'm in the Northern Region so what specifically are you planning to do in the near future to alleviate the problem in the Northern region?

This will go a long way in reassuring us that you are not folding your arms hoping the problem will go away.

Is this higher than usual latency now the new norm? I thought this has been resolved this morning already...

Our engineers and Management team are working on this as top priority. As to what exactly is being done I'm not 100% sure. When I do have feedback I'll be sure to let everyone know.

For now, we're doing what we can to normalise latency as best as possible.

Hmm, if something seems too good to be true, it probably isn't. Are the wheels falling off?
