Usage in the morning spiked a little faster than our shaper could bring it down, so our team jumped in to make manual changes. Latency should stabilise in a few minutes.

Sorry about that :(

Ah thanks. One of your support staff tried calling me at 04:30 this morning. Don't they know people sleep?

;)

We'd rather call and get bliksemed than risk that your business or income is affected by additional downtime. If you submit an SMS, then we treat it as urgent. Even though we're a lot slower than we'd like to be - we still treat it as a priority request for assistance.

This thread had 56 pages or 828 posts when the Afrihost network issues started (19 September in my books). Since then there has been 52 pages or 782 posts. That's 828 posts (52%) in 6 months and 782 posts (48%) in 1 month and 5 days.

When there were no issues, this thread was quite for days and you would just sometimes see someone posting how great their experience has been. The tone and frequency (22 posts per day) of posts have changed completely in the past 35 days.

Afrihost maintains there are no issues on their side yet there are now people complaining daily about latency and throughput.

I have raved about Afrihost to my friends and family since joining them and actually said they are the benchmark for ISP's but since mid-September my opinion has changed dramatically.

I still have a small hope that sanity will return to the Afrihost fold. However when Telkom make their proposed changes in November I will most certainly re-evaluate my options. I can only see the Telkom bandwidth upgrades will make things worse from a user perspective.

Ouch. At least I'm getting very good throughout...

Even with the higher than usual latency I'm still streaming the crap out of anything. 720p easily on Hulu and better than DVD on Netflix at the moment.

I can't even stream 240p videos right now :( been getting these speeds since yesterday

Speedtest.net results and real world throughput is not correlating for me! Actual performance is significantly better than the speedtest.net results suggest.

Speed tests are often only rough indications of things. I find it, quite often in fact, to be really unreliable.

so three days after opening an incident, still have received no call from Afrihost. Last night I received a message stating...

"There was an issue earlier today with high latency in the northern region of South Africa. This should now be resolved. If you are still having issues please run a traceroute to a server you are having high latency. Alternatively run a traceroute to Afrihost.com. Please send us these results so we can identify what is causing the issues"

My first incident was logged on monday.

So are the test results I submitted then useless?

Afrihost - pull up your socks.
