Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

Still no response from support. I received better service from Telkom.

I have PM'd afiguy....let's hope SOMETHING happens.

I've asked AfriMan/Afriguy about my streaming issues as well that started a month or so ago, and all I get asked is "is anything else running on the network" and "can you do a traceroute". And I've posted/replied many times before everything else works fine, no congestion, no issues just streaming doesn't work. There is no other devices using the network at the time.

The account for me is good for downloads, but for everything else I need to look at another ISP it seems.
 
I don't know if you can have the best off both. Streaming is another ball game.

Yeah, I had no issues on my 4Mbps account either while my sister was watching Netflix on the Roku.

I see a lot of people on 10Mbps lines complaining about streaming while my paltry 4Mbps line streams the **** out of anything. I think it could be that streaming HD content is just too intensive at present.

Anyway, the reason I popped in here is to complain about Afrihost's service. I can digest and can even understand their recent issues but what I cannot digest is bad customer service.

Someone needs to light a cracker in a few arses over there.

Yup, I agree on 8 megabits streaming of HD content with or without DTS audio needs some improvement.
It's if the latency is just not there ...
Downloads are brilliant most of the time.

Latency is also exchange related. I'm lucky in that my exchange is not congested no matter what time of day...

I see very little degradation in performance between 18:00 and 23:00. I can pretty much max out my line 24/7.

I'm lucky that my exchange doesnt have any performance issues, it's one of the ones used for the 100 FTTH trial :D
 
Wow it's been one heck of of a week for updates!

Yeah it's pretty crazy, I think bandwidth consumption around the world must be insane right now. We definitely seeing an increase from late yesterday - but I think we're managing it pretty well so far :)

Are you already able to make use of it, or has it just improved backhaul for now?

Congestion can be pretty much at any time, it depends on when the bulk of the area use the net (businesses or home users). Sadly, it seems like more than a quarter of exchanges nationally could be congested at times (I saw this posted on MyBB a while back, so hope it's not worse now) so we're really hoping that Telkom gets some new backhaul in before they upgrade everyone's lines next month :(

I'm at home 90% of the time and have top notch performance pretty much all day.
 
Hey Afriman/Afriguy

Any idea when the latency spikes will subside :( getting less than 1mbps for the first time in weeks ain't a nice feeling
 
anyone having issues on the 10mb business uncapped, first day in a weeks that my line is barely reaching 5mb, tested same ftp with telkom capped and im getting my full 10mb

cmon afrihost this is so called unshaped and uncapped, why the slowdown today
 
I'm getting higher than normal latency too, no matter which server I choose. Throughput is fine though.
 
Yip, I only signed up for this package yesterday though so am still "feeling" it out, but so far not impressed! Line speeds fluctuating wildly and only getting 10%-60% of the max line speed, 10mb line...

Have PM'd Afriman... No useful feedback as yet...
