OK, signed up today...downloaded fine earlier but now getting 0kb/s with NNTP...anyone else getting this?

Go to the new client zone, go to your business product and turn off Protocol Prioritization. It's a feature which blocks P2P traffic for business owners - but is completely voluntary :)

That might work, but it might not. NNTP is not P2P. If it does work then Afrihost should rename the feature to P2P/NNTP/Download Protocol Prioritization

Was going through the control panel last night and found it. After 15 mins it started at 90kb/s and an hour later it was running at full speed. Will see how it behaves today. Thanks for the advice though :)

For some reason it seems as though it is still shaped. I downloaded a few files like antivirus etc. and also did a speed test - won't go any higher than 200kb/s on my 4m line. Will contact support if it persists.

Logged a ticket as even youtube seems to struggle at 480p. Ping tests are fine though according to the network test app from afrihost.

Seems a little intermittent here, though pings look pretty normal. What do you get if you switch over to the Telkom Guest account? -s

Just for info. My experiment with asking Telkom to upgrade my line speed to 20Mbps on ADSL2+ modem took an interesting twist. My line speeds syncs at 15Mbps as stated before, which I am happy about, since I'm on a 10Mbps bus uncapped. Speed increased nicely to almost full 10Mbps line speeds.

Telkom then phoned me to check with me when they can send a technician out to do the VDSL installation. I advised it will not be needed, since I'm happy with the setup as is and everything is working just fine.

Later yesterday I received a sms to state that I can go fetch a VDSL modem at my closest Telkom shop. Not one to pass on an opportunity like this I went to the Telkom shop and they supplied me with a free VDSL modem to be used for my self install.

I did not know that Telkom is giving VDSL modems away for free like this. I did ask the Telkom shop is this is linked to a contract and others cost, but I was advised not.

So I'm a proud 'owner' of a new modem. Still sceptical and will closely look at my bill next month.

Sorry for hi-jacking the thread - Just found the events interesting and wanted to share.

Have you checked that your Protocal Prioritisation is de-activated in ClientZone?

Yup, it's turned off. Updated a game earlier and it seem to run at around 60KB/s. Still have had no reply from support - logged a ticket at 10am.

NNTP is considered as P2P by Afrihost, but I guess you're right. Maybe use the "Request Features and Suggestions" at the bottom of the AH Client zone :)

It might take a few hours to fully refresh your shaping profile - How are the speeds looking at the moment?

Hmm... very strange? I'm just taking a swing here, but I think you might see that one on your next bill :P

Did not know that either. That actually pretty awesome :)

Hope you didn't have to sign a contract. Is it the Pace brand?

But are you going to upgrade to a 20mbps ISP account as well? Getting 20mbps VDSL (with its associated exorbitant costs) to run a 10mbps account seems like a bit of a waste :/

That's pretty odd indeed. Once PP is off, it's pretty much set that way :(

PM me if you don't get any joy from our support team :(

Line rental on 20Mbps is not too bad, especially on our service. You're only looking at R100 more for double the speed.

I would do it in a heartbeat - Telkom says I may only get VDSL in September :(

Ah right, I was looking at the 40mbps prices. Hell, if my exchange can finally support this sometime, I'd go for it too.
