Nope I did not need to sign any contract.

Yeah it's a PACE brand... Think I have read that its not the greatest, but hey, one can't complain if you didn't pay for it.
 
I'm having major connectivity issues tonight. Can access MyBB and some other local sites, but international sites are inaccessible. If I reboot the internet works for half a minute. Extremely annoying...

Edit: Same issue with my Afrihost 1GB free capped account.

There is nothing wrong with the Pace routers. They obviously don't have all the bells and whistles but mine has been pretty stable, I've only rebooted mine once in the past 4 months.

Considering that I have local internet access, the problem must be with Afrihost. And the timing is consistent across the problem days. Ffs.

Thanks for that info. Good to hear. Looks like it has some decent features. The interface is a bit slow compared to my ASUS DSL-N12U I used.

The effort and slight extra cost to have your line synching at 20Mbps combined with the 10Mbps Bus uncapped appears at this stage to be worth it.

Looking at the speed tests done I can say I gained +- a 100KB/s on the download side of things. Uploads also increased. Upload speed in my last test ran over the 200KB/s, which means it has doubled.

Here is a test I did at about 18:00 31-01-14.




Happy chappy at this stage.
 
Internet is back to normal this morning. Very annoyed about the issues last night.

To be honest, Afrihost is fine most nights. So you will be ok! Get a free 1Gb, it's the same as the business uncapped accounts

Cool. Have tried the free 1GB and it's great. And only heard good things about BU. Looking forward to signing up next month.

Also see lots of Cape Town subscribers in this thread which makes me hopeful.

Well, I'm very happy with AH Bus uncapped. Had a few issues here and there, but it's by far better than what i had when I was at MWEB.

Really feeling that they always try to give the best speed for this type of account.

It's now time for then to make the 20 Mbps Bus Uncapped account cheaper,, Hint Hint

The high ping could indicate an issue with your local telkom exchange (Internet HQ is the best way to describe it :D), which might be congested by too many users. If so - you would experience the slow internet you describe.
