Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

odd how my complains and posts about speed issues never get responded to on these forums, do I need to change the currency I use to pay Afrihost each month? I have speed issues it seems every evening. You online support is never active after hours, I wait forever to get through to support, which is a expense calling from Cape Town, sending an sms, never works either as I never seem to get a call when I am able to check things like routers etc.

We try and address everyones posts here.
Have you tried submitting a ticket with the results from our network test app? I seem to recall discussing something like this with you a few months back.

Looks fairly horrible and inconsistent :(

Yes it is ... and only on the Afrihost Business account.

The other accounts are fine... and do not suffer from this horrible inconsistency.
Even the R99 Incredible 2Mb account sustains max speed in the evenings.

My 4Mbs Afrihost account seems to be doing this every night now... and only really becomes responsive after 11pm / 12am again.

You know, while the technical side of Afrihost answer queries quite well, the slow response from accounts is shocking.

Same here. I have to tweak my line to 1.5mbps and then it works again. Around 10pm I tweak it back to 2mbps and then it's fine again. (Obviously I'm on a 2mbps account :) )

Yo ho ... my Afrihost account is absolutely hundreds during the day... then from around 4pm it begins to wobble... and then acts like a 1Mbs line until midnight.
Latency jumps and speeds drop... speedtests to JHB are twice as fast as to local Cape Town servers, international just falls apart.
This is the Afrihost 4Mbs account on a 4Mbs line.

I switch to my backup accounts, 2Mbs... and these are perfect. CT, JHB and INT are all normal and speeds are all in the 2.4 - 2.7Mbs.

This is the type of rubbish that began to happen earlier this year when the IPC capacity issues struck.
Increased latency and then fluctuating speeds initially during peak and then all going to hell for nearly 3 months.

To get 1.6 - 2Mbs on a 4Mbs unshaped account on a 4Mbs line at night is just utterly meh.

Yeah, that's not cool.

I had no issues during the IPC thing earlier this year. As in NONE.
Last 2 weeks or so, I've had to do the tweaking thing. Telkom techie was here and did some tests...but that was the last I heard about that -about a week and a half ago.

I'm moving house soon, so I'll just ride it out until then.

Hope you get your issue sorted, though.

Definitely not great - sounds like contention, though I've never seen peak demand continue later that around 10-11pm before it tapers off. But from the symptoms you're both describing it would seem like the case (especially with other accounts performing as normal).

Sorry to hear this. What was the accounts query you had? If you PM me I can try and get this solved for you.

Have you been having issues during 6pm and 11pm in the evenings at all?

Like clockwork, on my side.

(But as I mentioned a "tweak" to a lower line speed resolves it -for me, at least.)

EDIT: BOOM! 530pm and it was tickets. Did a tweak to 1.5 and it's working again.
(Everytime I type "tweak" I say "twerk" out loud...and then I giggle a bit :D )

The odd thing the tests show no issues, and then i was told the speed issues were due to IPC issues, sop we go around and around and it never really gets solved. For weeks it could be fine, and then all of a sudden its crap again. From other posts here, you can see its not only me with issues.

Feeling it too - and apparently under ''critical care''

spd 4 june 2.PNG

MyBB and SAIX on a 4 Mbps line ....

starting to get annoyed with this.

edit. (have submitted all tests, line speeds and speedtests as required too)
