Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

Interesting turn of events.
My main reason for moving to Web Africa was Netflix. Everything else I have been perfectly happy with Afrihost - but family moans at me with constant Netflix issues.
The main issues I had were constant buffering (using a Roku) and periodically the buffering would stall at 25% and that would be the end of that. Have to exit the movie/show and go back in. Even worse is Netflix would not store the last position so we have to manually seek. Urgh ...

Been running Web Africa since Sat. Had the odd buffering and only twice it stalled. Tonight however we have had it a lot. I have been coding while cycling through Not Geo shows. Buffering was quite frequent tonight and we had 3 stalls. Unusual considering WA was always performing better than AH when I switched back and forth.
So I emailed UnoTelly to see if they could do something to fix it. They responded in under a minute (how the hell is that for support!) and they suggested I use Seattle and California DNS servers. So I did.
Been nearly 2 hours now and not one single buffer or stall. Picture quality is fantastic.

Tomorrow evening I am switching back to my AH account and will see if this fantastic Netflix stream persists. Hold thumbs cause I really want to stick around.

Sounds like at least you've found a workable solution. Please also report this to the Critical Care team you've been working with (I'll also mention to them). This might help others experiencing similar problems :)

Anyone else noticing speed issues on torrrents? I'm getting terrible speeds on my business uncapped and thr torrents are extremely well seeded. Max I am getting is half my line speed.

Buffering on Youtube at 480p on a 2Mb line today.

Meh. At least things work.

Have you done a speed test?

We are seeing some general throughput decrease, as per the notice on our website, but it's hard to say to what degree as it depends on the demand on any given evening. We're busy working with our team and MTN to improve the overall experience for users in the South.

Was this between 7 and 10pm?
Yes

Since when is your problem happening? Reason I ask, is because Axxess recently reviewed their AUP to include business accounts and that is when my torrent and NZB speeds went down to 10 kilobytes per second. Before I move to Afrihost, I want to be sure they aren't going to pull the same stunt.

Shouldn't be any issues slowing you down, are other downloads slow too?

Business is staying as Business, no shaping changes from our end.

Not sure if you have this info, but is any form of shaping like what is happening with Axxess Business planned for the near future?

No one has whispered anything in my ear, I think the way we have our Business accounts setup at the moment is pretty future proof :)

I hope this remains the case, odd how a part of a company can change their policy while the other remains untouched. I would imagine a max exodus if things changed. Speeds recently have felt a bit off though, speed tests tracerts all seem find, but browsing seems sluggish.

Axxess are still their own company :)
Shouldn't be any issues around speeds, our network looks to be running really well. Have you brought anything up with our team to troubleshoot?

Is this a problem?

The last couple of days there is no "exchange ping", anyone know why?

I'm afraid so, looks like there are issues on your exchange :(
Perhaps, but we've seen an increase in the number of exchanges set to not respond to icmp requests. It does typically follow a fault of some sort, or an upgrade order. Monitoring the third hop gives a good indication of any underlying issues...

As far as I know, just torrents. A 1.85GB download was running from last night and was still running this morning. Will try a router reset and check if that helps. I haven't checked other downloads yet but will do a speed test later on when I get home.

Since day before yesterday, might just be my account but I'll monitor it. Just needed to see if anyone else is having any issues.

I cannot stream the Apple Live Event on my 20Mb business. It plays for a few seconds and buffers.
Change to the AH 1Gb trial, works perfectly.

Change to WebAfrica trial, works perfectly.

AfriMan, you cannot seriously keep beating the drum that the business accounts are the same as capped.

I cant believe they restrict the live apple event to Apple users only!

Probably because they know us non Iphone users will mock the iPhone.
