Is anyone else's P2P speed being affected today ( Cape Town area), http downloads are running at full-ish speed but P2P is just pathetic, barely getting 30kb/s on a 2mb line

I'd kill for decent http speeds. Things getting so bad here webpages are timing out. It's getting worse the closer to peak time we get.

Who knew a phone update could cripple an ISP.

I could understand it if Apple had a 50% market share in RSA, but it can hardly be more than 10% if even that.
Thank F... they dont have a bigger market share, we'd be having this problem for a full week then.

The iOS 8 update cannot be blamed for the slow speeds. A file of this high demand would've been cached locally very quickly. AH is just using it as a scapegoat for their network issues.

I really don't buy the IOS update baloney. 1 GB would represent about 1/400 of my typical monthly bandwidth. Or 1/13 of one day's bandwidth. This does even begin to explain how 7/8 of my bandwidth has suddenly all but vanished. It is not the IOS updates. There is a much bigger problem going on. And I haven't read anything from Afrihost in this thread that even begins to explain it.

Go on, call them out for lying and watch how you get shunned.

Also, please explain to me, my WA account now is running at full speed, Afrihost is still rate limited to a % of my line.

You telling me AH has more Iphone users than other networks?

My sentiments exactly.
All we get is techno jargon and no decent explanation.

The yellow hat represents MTN at this point:

No amount of yadda yadda blah blah blah will convince me otherwise.

Well, I am not going to say they are lying. The reps might be just as much in the dark as we are. They provided the graphs which show some increase in demand due to these updates, but I fail to see how a marginal increase in demand results in me only getting 1/8 of my maximum throughput. Switch over to WebAfrica, who's clients also have IOS updates, and it is max-out, full speed, no issues.

You're right. Maybe I shouldn't say they are lying.

I think I need to hire lead_large.png Let her go pay a visit to AH head office.

Bernice will find out what's what.

I'm absolutely on the same train as you. I do think something else is going (probably not enough IPC) however the way cynicster and requiem went about it was pretty bad. I know you guys are angry but did you ever stop to think that there are things the rep can't say or plain just doesn't know? He's trying to help you with the limited information he has.

That being said I'm not justifying whats happening here. Quite the opposite. For the first in 3 years and 10 months of being with afrihost I've started having thoughts of finding another ISP. Here in cape town it feels like something breaks once a month or there isn't enough IPC. Then for the past few months it's felt like the internet has been sluggish on afrihost (I have a backup capped telkom account that doesn't suffer from this) not to mention the fact that I can do 720p videos on youtube but can only get low quality on twitch when the stars align. The only thing that's stopped me from moving outright is the feeling that all SA ISP's have this issue in some form or another.

I've been with them for this long, I can give them a week or two.

I find it very hard to believe that a simple update would bring AH's network to it's knees...If that is the case, close shop now, it will only get worse AH...What happens when a new update is released for the S5/Android tablets/Galaxy Notes, their network would simply buckle under the strain if that's the case...Something else is at play and their tech's can't seem to figure out what it is, it's taken over a day to still try and find a solution...

If said rep doesn't know something or isn't at liberty to reveal certain information then he should rather be frank about it than feed the client lame excuses which anyone can see straight through. Clients prefer and respect honesty more than having their arses kissed.

Then you yell at him because "I don't know" is an unacceptable answer or he can't know what he doesn't know so whats he meant to tell you?

Anyway I'm not here to argue with you. Their network right now is pretty abysmal and like everyone else has said there is no way 1 update crippled their entire network, something else is going on here.

Afrihost, please start sharing communication in regards to service outages, and performance issues on the service. I didn't know there was a problem being experienced, I had to come check on the forum. An email would have been nice, further more the web site could have been updated.

Not slamming my fave ISP here, just making a couple of suggestions.

If he tells me he doesn't know and that he'll get back to me, it's fine as long as he does get back to me and in a timely fashion. He's at least being honest about not knowing the facts and showing initiative for trying to get the information. From what I can gather, Requiem wasn't given that courtesy from critical care and AfriGuy/Man have yet to let us know what the real issue is with their network.

Anyhow, as you said, no point arguing with each other.

Still that same hop 3... Please, for the love of my sanity, FIX IT!
