So finally they will be stopping double mobile data. Guess thats a signal to cancel the afrihost service and go to axxess - just because of the 3 month rollover.

Hi,
As you probably know, our Double Mobile Data promotion is coming to an end this month.
Why are we not extending the promotion?
When we launched our Mobile Double Data promotion back in September 2013, I promised you we'd keep it running until the end of February 2014.
I honestly thought we'd have no choice but to stop the 'Double Data' offer in Feb because the per GB price you get from us is so far below our wholesale cost.
However, we decided to keep subsidizing the cost and extend the offer, first to end June, and then after that to the end of this year.
Why would we keep doing this if we were losing money?
We were hoping that as we grew our overall volume of GBs used, our cost per GB would come down enough so we would be able to keep offering Double Data.
However, our wholesale cost has unfortunately not come down to a point where we can come close to break even - Our cost per GB is still well above the effective rate you pay us.
This means we have no choice but to end the Double Mobile Data on the 31st of December as communicated over the course of the last year.
Is there a Silver Lining?
Yes. You can still keep Double Mobile Data on a mobile package of your choice if you have Afrihost Plus+.
I do realise this means you will have to pay more but unfortunately it is the only way we can still manage to offer Double Data and even come close to breaking even.
Fortunately with Afrihost Plus+ you do get other mobile data perks (such as an extra 500MB of Mobile Data AND 2-for-1 Mobile Data topups anytime of the month) so I sincerely believe the R99 is well worth the value you get.
It's absolutely fine if you choose not to join Afrihost Plus+. I would, however, suggest that you do look at it and decide for yourself whether it is worth it or not.
You can find out more about Afrihost Plus+ and the many benefits it offers here:
https://www.afrihost.com/landing/afrihost_plus/
And the good news is you can test Afrihost Plus+ for 30 days without paying a cent.
Go get your 30-day Free trial and give it a run, see how it works and then decide whether or not it is worth it for you.
As always, I am sincerely grateful for your continued trust in us.
Have a wonderful day!

P.S.
Although we would love to extend our Double Mobile Data promotion, we unfortunately cannot.
However, you can choose to extend your Double Mobile Data through Afrihost Plus+
You can try it out for free, with no obligation at all. Go and grab your trial and see if it makes sense for you:

Thanks!

I'm sure that many are going to cancel because of this (I'm considering cancelling too, pending coverage), but I don't blame Afrihost in any way. The truth is that for a long time now, they have been giving us great value for low prices. I can accept that this can't continue indefinitely. Over the years, Afrihost has given me
- probably more than 500GB prepaid ADSL data (for free)
- a Mifi device worth R800-R900, for free (or negligible amount, can't remember)
- something like 15GB free mobile data when they first launched their mobile products
- mobile double data amounting to about 36GB extra data.
I'm honestly still not sure if they actually made money from me! So yeah, I'll keep supporting them in one way or another. I have a feeling they'll soon launch comprehensive mobile services, including voice and cheap data - all on a month to month model like all their other products.

But they keep double up data for ADSL..!!
Forcing people to now buy the new Afrihost plus+ that has just been released.
it seem there is not a good uptake of Afrihost Plus+, now they start forcing users to get the Afrihost Plus+, so that they can say, "see there, it was a very succesfull launce"
I bought a wifi mobile unit from afrihost taht can only be used on afrihost network. Already tried another sim and it does not work unless I use an MTN sim linked to afrihost.
Afrihost please supply me the software to remove the block on the wifi mobile unit as I will not continue using your services. I surely have the right to use my hardware with anotehr service provider now that this service is not a bargain anymore for me.
(NB: I fully understand your point that you cannot subsidise anymore, but at least then put me in situation to use another service provider with my hardware I fully paid for)
You will be getting Double the Data on your Capped ADSL for another SIX MONTHS until the end of June 2015.
You don't need to do anything.
Your double data will continue to automatically be added to your account each month.
I hope this adds some cheer to this Festive season and helps start your 2015 off in the right way!
Enjoy!
And thanks again for your loyalty and faith in us.
Have a great day!
