Afrihost Capped ADSL Feedback (MTN) - New beginning

So if it is an exchange issue, why is that same latency spike not present on the WebAfrica trace posted?

Guaranteed not to get a response from them on your question. It's everyone else's fault but their crap crumbling MTN network.

In my own experience, switching to a different ISP's account temporarily improves latencies, as it is a newly authenticated session, degradation in the quality of the connection usually happens over 15 to 20 minutes.

If ,however, the latency literally only ever occurs on the Afrihost account - even after extended use with a different ISP - then it is definitely something we need to investigate from our side.

People keep believing that it will be fixed soon. It probably will but 4-6 months later.

Good luck to those.

Having issues with people teleporting around in LoL/Smite. Swap to webafrica account and the issue is gone.
What is strange is that I am running a ping test to vienna.at at the same time, no packet loss/ping spikes.
LoL has 168ms ping and 380fps.

I am also running Skype at the same time and have no issues with any delays/quality degrade (voice).

What was the latency and packet loss sitting at with the Afrihost account?

bull****! so why then when i change back to my afrihost account with a "newly authenticated session"i get the same high latency?

Stop looking for excuses.

secondly the other night trying to play destiny on PS4 i had 3 DC in about 5 min on my AH account, changed over to my WA test account and had the best latency and gaming experience I've had in months. Played for around 4 hours with WA account with no degradation you speak of above.

Recently Telkom upgraded quite a few Exchanges with different equipment, these Exchanges no longer respond to ICMP requests, so that will not appear on Traceroutes nor will you be able to Ping the Exchange. I'm still not entirely sure why this is the case, the little I've been able to find out is that this change was implemented for security reasons.

Wow, your understanding of IPC truly is ridiculous. Please explain how you ping a Telkom exchange since technically your DSL session is an encapsulated PVC to your (MTN's) IPC gateway and then onwards. Incidentally all hops on any of the trace routes are on your network and will not show any Telkom exchange but ok keep on spewing this BS.

Afrigenie explain the network status page again please, what's the point of it? Your management have their heads so far up their asses that they haven't noticed the amount of cancelations in the last month while your network continues to run like a bomb? Last issue displayed on there was in February, who you guys trying to kid here?

All this while your network status stays green! The network is running like a bomb...

Wow...

I'm not really sure what to say, we definitely need to look into this from our side. I've asked our Team to look into this from their side, that difference in performance is way off.

Yes, I'm tired of your team looking into this. They been looking for nearly a month already with no answers or improvement.

Maybe when more people jump ship the IPC issue will sort itself out...

Something wrong with the speed today?

I can't even finish a speedtest, it starts out downloading at 0.1 kbps...

Speed happily flies when I switch to my webafrica account

I ran out of cap on Wednesday, so I topped up my account for some light browsing and streaming yesterday at about 19:00. However I could not access the Internet as everytime I do it takes me to clientzone saying that I've reached my cap. Afri guys/girls wtf? If I look at my account now it still shows that 3gb I bought last night.

Dear Afrihost, can someone check what's going on with my account?

I feel your pain.

Although seeing this makes me think all the ISPs heavily prioritise their free packages in order to gain subscribers (since my above speedtest from CrystalWeb was also 1 of their free accounts)

EDIT: Just cancelled my Afrihost account and going to try another ISP for the month. Tired of constantly having to check this forum and just hope the issues go away. Not to mention there is still packet loss to the CS:GO servers (was getting up to 5% last night)

So the new month started and my 120gb got 2gb capped for the month to use after being invoiced R500 can someone help me fix this?

Playing CS GO I used to have great ping (15-45), now I constantly get 180+, or if I am lucky 55 ping for a minute, and then BAM, I'm dead, why, because the guy shooting me has normal ping and I don't.

In related news, support first asked for pathping, I supplied, then support replied, no sorry that's useless, please run a tracert. So. Now I wait to see if that was a delaying tactic, or if anything can actually be done.
