Hi AfriGuy

Suddenly working at both locations.

Axxess and Afrihost authenticating again... was down for 3ish hours.

Very very strange!

Can you please send me a PM with your Username, I want to go through the logs from our side.

Hi AfriGuy

Axxess and Afrihost authenticating again... was down for 3ish hours.

Looks like we had the same symptoms.
I went and reported a line fault with Telkom, I hope they don't now try and fix a perfectly good line :)

Hahaha

At least you were not instructed to reset the routers to default... "recalibrate" the POTS filters, try another telephone cable... and then finally to replace the faulty router.

It was at this point I was informed by the callers that they were sitting with "faulty" routers.

I just checked with Telkom, and they are busy with widespread "Routine Software Upgrades" on Exchanges particularly in the South, and this may affect Connectivity.

As it turns out I actually did all of that before reporting the fault :)

Not under any ones instruction, just as a normal test, I have been supporting friends and clients on ADSL since day one, so I have all the kit on hand.

Sorry not to fix
And getting the stupid email from critical care

Hi Thorsten

Pranav here from Afrihost Critical Care again.

I have spoken to our Network engineers for an update on the network status.
They are still busy trying to fix the problem on the network but still cannot say how long it will take to fix

I'll keep checking with them daily and update you with feedback.

Have a great day and please let me know if I can help with anything else!

Warm regards

Pranav

We are working hard on getting things sorted out, I know it sucks at the moment :(
You're in good hands with our Critical Care team, they'll let you know the second they have any feedback available for you.

Order more IPC, problem solved!

While I think that probably is a quick win, I think we've gone over that it isn't a viable long term solution.

You can't tell me that after a month you guys are still battling trying to contain rouge uncapped accounts bypassing shaping policies?

The reality of the situation is that Afrihost have reached their capacity on the network and are trying to now over manage the system rather than purchase more IPC.

it's understandable, more IPC = less profit and now that MTN owns Afrihost less profit is not an option.

The sooner you all admit it rather than selling the public on services you can't offer we can all move on.

After all less customers would sort your IPC issue out and is probably the cheaper of the two options.

I don't think that's the case at all, I think AfriMan has discussed this at length too.
In short, sure, throwing more IPC at the problem will fix things in the short term. But that also means millions of Rands worth of investment (not that we're scared to) and without having negative affects on our pricing matrix, further savings, client benefits etc etc all fall away.

So yeah, we can add stacks of capacity. And not see any price changes for at least a year, and within that time more capacity will be needed. It's a cycle that won't end, and we'll still be having this conversation years down the line. So look dude, I know things suck a bit now, but please bare with us for a while longer.

Continue the path that you are on and you guys will be lucky to have any clients left to offer further savings, client befits.

If it weren't for the 1 month left of credit that I have with you guys I would have jumped ship last month already.

Let's face it, lately there's more issues than smooth running Internet like there was before you joined the MTN network.

I guess everyone is entitled to their opinions, but the fact is we've been running on MTN's IPC for a little over two years now - and we've seen options never before possible.
While it's hard to swallow now, we're happy with our network and how it's grown.

High latency and DC on Destiny ps4 again

As far as I can see latency was solid on the general North region network for pretty much all areas. Did you run any tests at the time to compare? I haven't tested Destiny for ages myself. Will see if I can fire it up and give it a bash as well.
