Afrihost Capped ADSL Feedback (MTN) - New beginning

OK, In an effort to be constructive... since I work from home I can monitor my connection pretty well.

It does appear that he problem is happening mostly at night (or at least I havent noticed it too much during the day)... from say like 9pm onwards... at least in my case.

No its not my line etc.... if I switch to another ISP it all back to normal.

What I have noticed is that when the ping is low... its not as low as it usually was. Usually I would have a ping of around 9-13 (which I get at another ISP all the time)... but on AH, its in the 20-30s when its "working".

...but I suspect this isnt anything new to you.

The issue is that as Im paying for a capped account, I expect to be getting priority on the network.... so Im not sure why we are being affected by usage.

OMG, this thread has finally descended to this? How did Afriman think it would end when there was no feedback on when exactly these problems that we are experiencing would end? I have started the process to cross over to WA, come 1 July i am over this nonsense.

The feedback so far has definitely not been as good as we would have liked, but there are a number of factors that have played into this, and in the coming days we'll be able to go into more detail about the entire process.

At this point I can confidently say that things will improve, and we've got a solid roll-out plan in place, so there will be a definitely timeline to when you can expect things to get better.

The latency appears to be linked to our network management software, that isn't handling network traffic as well as it should be. You are right in saying the latency becomes noticeably higher during the early evening, and this has gotten progressively worse over the last week.

I'm in definite agreement with you, our Capped users should be receiving priority on the network, and this is definitely something that we are working on improving.

What would you all say to a tool which pings a server (could be 8.8.8.8 or anything) constantly in the background - and will create a graph/report that can be uploaded/processed with exact dates and times of latency issues? It will most probably allow the reps to see exactly who is affected, when they are affected...

Just an idea...

Morning!

That would be great! Especially if the tool is a simple executable file, that is quick and easy to run!

Would it be a major change to have a local server being pinged as well as an international one?

Well I'm sure I could write one quickly :P

I just know that people are often unwilling to have something running in the background.

Please have a GUI with it, maybe add a graph on it that plots it over time?

I think people worry about any apps that run in the background that eat system resources and affect their internet connections performance.

I'm pretty damn sure you can get it running with no noticeable system overhead. ;)

There is such a tool... command prompt

Command prompt can do everything.
The idea is that you have it in a nicer format with a visual representation that is easy to upload, rather than having to select all > enter every time.

ooh... that smokeping looks interesting. Never heard of it.

Been reading this forum for the last few weeks and its time for me to chime in. Im in the South and have also been major latency issues in the evenings. Switch to my WA account and its sunshine and rainbows again. Im not going to post any tests as I know this is a general issue with AH in the south.

Please guys sort this out asap I really dont want to have to drop you guys as my main ISP but if it is not fixed soon you will leave me no choice.

Getting our network running at peak efficiency is our top priority at the moment, and we will do what we have to do make sure that our Client's get the performance that they need.

It seriously upsets me to see the thread degrade as it has.
All this is pretty onerous to be honest.

AfriPeeps, you all need to accept that the frustration and anger directed at AH is self inflicted by the lack of transparency / clear communication on the matter.... and let's not start with the Status board, which is still Green.
We understand that you guys can't communicate anything until it's confirmed by the higher-ups however rather than getting frustrated or bringing up bannings in posts, rather focus that energy on getting the answers from the higher-ups and sharing those with us. I have raised the transparency issue with AH management. Let's hope they take heed.

I received the following feedback from AH Critical Care management yesterday.
I would rather it have come from the AH reps directly but the tone on the thread suggests it should be posted

Trust you are well.

I have some good news, Our directors have been in meetings over the past few weeks, regarding our network.
Especially the contention issues on the South IPC.
I wanted to inform you, that there is planned network upgrades.
I do not have an ETA at the moment, however I will update you regularly once I received feedback.
