Afrihost Capped ADSL Feedback (MTN) - New beginning

It's a new router that worked just fine until late last week (when everyone in Cape region complained about speeds)...I also don't have a spare router.

Thing is...if it IS a line fault, then surely Afrihost can ask a Telkom technician to come out and inspect? I don't mind paying as long as my stuff gets back to normal.

Ok so teamspeak again tonight 50% packet loss in the client on afrihost and on WA and CW 0% guess when it started 6:30 like clockwork, yes as usual im in the south yes im capped, yes I have sent 1000 tracerts to this thread and to the client support and no nobody has helped me 3 months so far quite amazing.

I feel like cancelling my account with them to be honest. I'm not getting what I'm paying for and I cannot be bothered anymore by being asked to do tracerts everyday...

The reason I moved to Afrihost in December is because some of my friends (also in Northern Suburbs, WC) are with them and have been getting excellent performance...so I moved and was really surprised with the great performance as was I was told...so I moved my line to them as well thinking FINALLY, I found an ISP that really knows their stuff...but this last month has been it for me...first I spent an entire week on the phone to Afrihost call center trying to get them to get Telkom to switch me to a VDSL profile. When that happened finally all was well again for about 2 weeks when performance in the Cape region (late last week) just went down the drain. My latency and download speeds seems almost normal now but clearly the upload speed is far from acceptable. Now the thing is, I'm the paying customer and I'm not happy...but yet I'm being told that what I'm getting is fine? Screw that...if Afrihost cannot figure out the problem, then they should arrange for a Telkom technician to come out to my house to figure out the problem and fix it. I understand and accept this would probably have a call out fee going with it but that's fine I just want my service restored to normal.

and local?

Not much better, up and down around 7-10MB/s. Bear in mind that I'm on a 20MB/s ADSL2+ sync. So that's why upload is about 0.8; it syncs 20479/1019. Axxess has the same speed results; and I believe they're on MTN too. Maybe it's an MTN thing?

Ive been complaining for ages too, asking for trace routes etc and to PM them, I don't even bother anymore.
someone else in the forum said I should just cancel and stop my bull SH"T threats and cancel. which I am sure I will eventually do.
Afrihost is seeing it as an individual problem even though they see so many users complain. I cant stream anything unless its youtube ,
MTN is the issue.
The sad truth is Afrihost even with their cr@ppy network is still the cheapest, if you have time, you can use the data. you just cant use it real time.

I'm using their 150G + 150G capped account, cant use it for real time streaming. but if i leave my torrents queued in the evening I usually do get what i want over a few days/weeks and use around 180GB. just don't expect real time speeds or gaming latency.
I use Telkom on my 50G cap to stream real time media or gaming and Afrihost for torrents or queued downloads.

They are Not what they were a year ago...
but where where else can you get 300G torrent downloads for +-R500 a month. (excl Telkom)
Use Afrihost as a data collector and any other provider as a real time service.

I'll live with this, even though I hate the word Afrihost and MTN, I get the same nasty feeling from Internet solution's Hosting services , where at the end of the day its just business and negative thoughts as a whole.
I hate Afrihost, but there isn't much better. I just vote negatively towards them and vot new players in the market these days so that they Afrihost don't get my vote.

Honestly doesnt even show how bad it is, when i connect to teamspeak either SA or International afrihost has 50% loss then dc's all the time and my 2 other ISP's work perfectly.

The difficulty here is that there is no packet loss on our network but depending on what time you tested there could be some latency on the network from high demand. Looking at our reports of yesterday, there was a very mild increase in latency over what we consider the peak window, which suggests that it shouldn't have greatly affected your experience, but a small bit of latency introduced on an international link could probably be more apparent than for local links :(

There was a temporary glitch, seems to be related to DNS. Seems like some people were affected while others weren't. Would have affected access to our site and ClientZone :(
I'm on opendns and could access the sites.

But it is EVERY night for me, at 6:00 in the south packet loss is beyond bad on afrihost every other ISP works this wasnt just yesterday its EVERY day and its not just me, in real applications its like 30-50% packet loss on afrihost and 0 on every other ISP I have, also the "peak" window is when I need my account to work at it doesnt atm I get 0% time on my afrihost account unless its past 11 at night latency - terrible , packet loss -terrible and we ALL know its not an isolated to me since I have been posting tracerts here since feb with the SAME problem as like 50 other people in the thread alone?

We're definitely aware of the rise in latency that we see over the peak demand period in the evenings. Some evenings have definitely been better, but when demand is excessive we do see latency rise and some services very dependant on low latency like gaming could show some packet loss. The main thing is that this is only the case during that peak demand window. When demand is normal, then we should see great latency as well as zero packet loss (at least from our network).

This issue has started at about 3pm already for an entire week.

We don't have any announcements at the moment but I am sure we'll confirm well before the month comes to an end so clients can plan accordingly for July forwards.
