Afrihost Capped ADSL Feedback (MTN) - New beginning

We don't need a "trial network" in two weeks or more. We need the one we are using to work as advertised!

We are still going to continue to make whatever improvements we can to make the current network give the best performance possible, but I think there is definitely a much more long term benefit to focussing our efforts on our new direction and making sure we take every step to prevent the same things from occurring in the future.

Does that mean you can't fix what you have and have resorted to starting afresh?

It certainly sounds like it.

It certainly sounds like it.

It means that we're between what we've had and what we will have. We'll put more energy into making the new network as good as it can be, and available as quickly as possible because that is the more lasting solution and one which we have more control over making successful.

Let's not waste precious time! ;)

Okay okay stop... I'll stay, I'll stay, I'll promise I'll stay :( Just don't kill off Jon Snow. :p

@AfriMan, the call center line isn't picking up. Please can I have a trial account? - I want to test the capped unshaped packages.

Daddy needs a new ISP.

Despite all my /mehs and my doom and gloom responses... the AfriTeam has been the one and only fingergrip I have maintained on this whole MTN bluuuurgh Afrihost saga.

The AfriTeam may indeed be batting for their team, but They (capital T) have always been willing to assist me whenever I have needed help... above and beyond the call of their duty.

Credit due where it is due.

AfriMan and the Team are perhaps the ONLY reason I am still able to participate in these threads... and help they indeed do... despite their management and MTN constraints!

Your assistance IS appreciated, despite what I might say.

Thank you ...

This.

Thank you to the afriteam on here, this has been a particularly rough period yet you persevere in smoothing the ruffled feathers.

Big Ups, would not have wanted to be in your shoes today!

Thanks so much. We're all strapped in and ready for the weeks to come knowing that there's a brilliant light at the end of this tunnel.

Having said that, Gian will be buying us a lot of donuts in the near future ;)

Was look trying to watch a Youtube PS3 Lego Pirate of the Caribbean walkthrough for my boy.
Buffering its ass off, and one thing I hate is when one of my kids ask "Whys it so slow Dad !!!"

Swapped to Webafrica.

Problem went away.

Twitch still buffers more than it plays.

EDIT: Youtube works like charm!

Awesome - Twitch will definitely be something I'll test when we look at these proof of concept networks. Would love for that to work as well as it does on our best days :)

YouTube is definitely working nicely for me. Streaming at 720p easily. What sort of pings are you getting on Afrihost to YouTube?

Much better tonight, Youtube is now fine if I use Google DNS but something is still funky with Afrihost's DNS. Google drive is still slow, but at least I am getting around 1mbit tonight.

Over here with Afrihost DNS I'm unfortunately still getting 400ms ping times to YouTube (capped ADSL, paying for 10Mbit/s line, usually getting between 5 and 6Mbit/s):
